Special Free Map of Barovia & Thank you Post from DM Andy

Update, April 4th, 2023: After receiving an incredible suggestion from a member of our map community, I have created location tokens both with and without borders so you can use them to hide/reveal location names on the map as players discover them. You will find them in the attached .zip file named "Location Tokens". Cheers!

Original Post: Hey everyone! We here in the DM Andy Maps community have grown so much and yesterday we hit a big milestone with growing our community of map lovers! It has been well over a year now and we have come a long way into mapping out the spooky corners of the dreary worlds of Barovia and beyond. Some of you are new here while some of you have been on this journey with me the entire time and I thank each and everyone one of you!

My hopes and goals of this page is to be able to bring you high quality battlemaps that transport your players into the misty forests, dreary towns, and fetid swamps of desolate lands. The core focus of my maps has always been detail and mood and I'm so thankful you all have been able to enjoy my creations!

From the very bottom of my heart, I want to personally thank each and everyone of you. Your commitment to adding detailed battlemaps to your games shows your love of TTRPGs and more importantly, shows you care to bring the best quality to your players and create an immersive experience for them to be transported into our various fantasy worlds of our own creations. I am honored each and every day that I get to do this and while the labor takes many, many hours, it is a labor of love and I am passionate about what I do. From my wife and I, THANK YOU and cheers to our growing community!

As a special thanks, I have created a free parchment map of Barovia with tons of variants for you all to enjoy!

The variants included here are as follows:

Once again a special thank you and I'm so very excited to finish mapping out all of CoS and more! This is only the beginning here at DM Andy Maps and still plenty of amazing modules, dark fantasy settings, and original adventures to map out along the way. Thank you for joining me on this amazing journey and more grand adventure awaits!

Cheers,

DM Andy

Of course! The font is called "Jim Nightshade"

can you share what font you used for location names? trying to add some homebrew locations to the map and would like it to match

DSeraph

I'm so sorry for the lag in replying! Patreon can be a little tricky with notifications sometimes, and I missed this one. With that said, this map was a little tricky since A) it's on a hex grid and B) when I made it, I had never used Foundry before, so I didn't make it with a nice clean grid in mind for that system. Though with a world map like this, I'd say you have more wiggle room with sizing it how you'd like based on the distance you use in your games (most DMs change the map distance to make it feel larger). Unlike a battlemap, where it's important to line the grid up for token movement, I think you have some flexibility with this map to proportion it how you like. If you have any specific sizes you'd like for the map, let me know, and I'll see what I can do! Regarding the tokens, it's the same issue as above in that I didn't think about Foundry when I made those tokens. So if there are some sizing specifics you have in mind for tokens, let me know, and I'll see if I can re-do them. However, I think you should be able to edit the token size within Foundry to match the area it goes over, correct? (I am not a power-user of the platform and still very novice so please forgive my lack of knowledge here).

So, the suggested 4050w x 2700h at GS: 100. doesn't seem to line up in Foundry. Is there any further guidance? Additionally, is there sizing suggestions for the location tokens?

Glad it could help! I'm going to do the same for the Saltmarsh map as well

The location tokens are a prime example for something I didn't know I needed. Thank you! <3

All the credit goes to Nick Shirley in the comments above. It was a great idea I never even thought of! I'm happy to provide those tokens and glad to hear they are useful for you. Cheers!

OMG You are a mind reader. I've been trying to figure out how to make a version with token locations for journal entries, and kept getting annoyed that none exist and it would take so much work, and then you drop this amazing bomb on us all. Thanks!!!!!
