March, 2022 - Update Post

Hi Everyone!

I've been so buried in map making that I've barely had time to write an update post! But seeing as how our community here at DM Andy Maps has grown so much I thought it was a good time to let you know what's brewing in the cauldron.

First, and always most importantly, I'd like to personally thank all of my patrons. Your support and engagement has been incredible and every day I wake up, I'm both humbled and honored to be on this journey with you. Map making is truly my passion and hearing your stories about how you've used my maps for your games is so inspiring. I hope you will continue to find enjoyment and value here on my page.

Social

I am hopeless when it comes to navigating social media, but fortunately, my wife is not! She's been gracious enough to help run my IG account and she's been posting all sorts of fun videos and reels. She often will take video shots of me map making or even put together some map making tutorials. I think she's been doing a wonderful job and I know it would mean the world to us if you gave a follow over at: @dm_andy_maps on IG :)

Maps

Okay, let's get to the meat of the post. Here is where I will tell you all of the current projects that are in the front-burner and discuss what my future plans are.

Interactive Tome of Strahd

With 3 chapters down I'm making progress on this awesome module. I will be working on chapter 4 this week and hoping to get it out by either the 28th of the 4th. I'm trying to stagger these map releases for those not using this module so there is value for all on the page. But if you are running CoS, seriously check it out! It's a great adventure to go in-depth on the history of Barovia. You can find it over on the DMs Guild here.

Content Collaborations

As most of you know, I've been collaborating with two amazing content creators; Pyram King and Lunch Break Heroes. Pyram King continues to put out amazing content for Curse of Strahd and really expands the lore from the module, giving you a much more in-depth play through. Him and I have been working together since we both launched our pages and he's not only an amazing content creator, but I considered him a good friend! He's working on expanding out some lore around one of the brides and I'll be working on a revised version of the tower in Tsolenka pass to support these changes. There are a few other locations we've discussed as well so stay tuned for more information on that front.

On the Lunch Break Heroes front, I've had the opportunity to partner with LBH on their line of original new adventures they have been putting out! So far I have done maps for four adventures and the best part is, as a patron of mine you not only receive the maps, but the written PDF as well! I've been working on the next release which should come out very soon and let's just say it includes a murky swamp village and a hidden crypt. Keep an eye out for these new maps by me and a new adventure by LBH!

Curse of Strahd

It has been a year since I've been making maps for CoS and I can't believe I've nearly mapped out the entire module. What an adventure it has been! Yesterday I just finished my last release for Yester Hill and this should give you enough maps to run through many druid encounters with your party. Up next, I'll be working through Argynvostholt and the ruined mansion / garden in Berez. I also have a few generic maps I'll be releasing for the swamps and the Svalich Woods as well (can never have enough generic location maps right?).

After those maps are done, Pyram and I will be partnering on creating a new written encounter and a series of maps for the Mad Mage of Mt. Baratok. Let's face it, for such a named NPC, this encounter as written is pretty lacking. I am super excited to work on this project along side Pyram!

And of course, let's not forget the big, gothic elephant in the room (listening to Siouxsie and the Banshees no doubt!); Castle Ravenloft! I know many of you have asked for this location and I've been purposely putting this off to the very end as I know how big of a project this is. The good news is the maps for the Interactive Tome of Strahd are giving me great ideas for mapping out the Castle and we are nearly there. Once all the key locations of the book have been mapped out, I'll start releasing the Castle in sections. This is going to be a big one folks and I hope I can do this important location the justice is deserves!

Lastly, I have not forgotten about some 3rd party content out there I'd like to do. The Orphanage and Reformation Center in Vallaki from Reddit user MandyMod and I'll be working on the "Sanguine Inn" revamp location from my own "Sanguine Rose" encounter in the event your players let sneaky Ernst take over the Blue Water Inn (just like my players did...).

Additionally, I'd like to make larger scale city maps of the Barovian cities. I've enjoyed using the watercolor art style for the larger city maps, but I might make these city maps in both styles to fit all of your preferences.

Lastly, once the Castle is done, I'll be revisiting some of my older maps and revamping them to 2.0 versions. I feel my map skills have increased over the last year and I think I can do a much better job at some of my earlier locations!

Beyond Curse of Strahd

I want to continue making maps for Dark Fantasy. I personally am going to be running a Grim Hollow  campaign (World setting by Ghostfire Gaming) and would love to start making maps for various locations around Etharis but that can be used for any campaign (CoS included). I would like to branch out into other popular modules like Waterdeep Dragon Heist, Rime of the Frost Maiden, and even venturing into Exandria and doing some maps from the Critical Role campaign setting of Tal'Dorei

I've very excited about the future and I hope I can continue to build maps you love!

Conclusion

Sorry for the long update but I appreciate your time in reading this far. This community means the world to me and I want to make this the best DM Andy Maps experience you can get. I'm always listening to your comments and feedback and I look forward to continuing to hold up the high standard of map making you all expect and deserve.

Cheers,

DM Andy

Comments

I'm personally really excited with this update and I'm looking forward to all that added content. My preference, for what it's worth, is for the areas that others haven't mapped so much. So, the reformation centre and orphanage would be really welcomed, even before Ravenloft. Alleyways of Vallaki would similarly be really exciting.

Pyram you are amazing!! You take my creations and bring them to life with your adventures and awesome content. I'm really looking forward to working with you on the mad mage stuff one day!!

Andy D'Amato

Ahhh I love it! That means the world to me and I seriously appreciate your support. I love all of those ideas and 100% plan on mapping out just about every possible location of Barovia. Including all the gates (Vallaki has four gates plus the western Barovian gate and I want to re-do my original eastern gate too). I want to design a "Alleyways of Vallaki" map similar to my City of Marionettes map and of course do the interior location for Larnak Publications as well. Still a lot more Barovian maps to be made :)

Andy D'Amato

That sounds amazing!! Once I'm ready to start branching out into other domains of dread I'll reach out. Would love to collab!

Andy D'Amato

Thank you. It has been an amazing journey. Your maps are inspirations to my writing. Thank you for your help, guidance, and friendship.

Pyram King

Thanks for the update Andy. Been secretly holding out hope that you'll do locations like the bridge over the Ivlis River between the crossroads and the village, the western set of gates, Ravenloft's Gates, Vallki's gates (so many gates lol) and Larnak Publications over the Rose. Unsolicited requests aside lol, thank you for all of your amazng work. The tone and atmosphere for sessions at my table wouldn't be what it is without your maps.

ThatGuyTrench

I'm running a Van Richten's campaign and can help you come up with map ideas or plans for some of the many locations featured in that! I've done some map making and I'm trained graphic artist and art director. I plan on taking my players to each domain of dread.
