Champion Tier - Interactive Tome: Chapter 3 - 50x40

All "Interactive Tome" maps are inspired by the well-written work of The Aciduous Adventurer, and the original adventure can be found on the DMs Guild here.

Update: Thanks to user feedback, I created a version with the throne facing forward and updated the files. I did this for the day maps but if anyone wants this also for the night maps, just let me know and I'm happy to update.

Original Post: Hey everyone and happy Monday!

For today's release, we I pleased to post the third chapter of the amazing Interactive Tome of Strahd adventure. If you have not yet run this, or are not familiar with it, you can check it out over on the DMsGuild here. It is written by The Aciduous Adventurer and really makes the Tome of Strahd worth finding.

In my own game, my party just found the Tome of Strahd in the swamps of Berez yesterday and they loved the prologue! This is a great example of "show not tell" and helps to flush out Strahd's story without it being a massive lore dump or pages of notes to read. It also grows in power and gives your players fun new abilities with each new chapter they explore. I highly recommend it!

With this map, you are transported to the time where Strahd welcomes Sergei to his court for the first time and this gives you a chance to really flush out Sergei and Strahd's relationship. It also gives your players a chance to fight some of the NCPs in a fun tournament or even joust!

For my patrons, this map includes:

I hope you enjoy this one!

I have a ton of projects in the works currently which includes: A (very) misty forest map for generic encounters, a Berez map with a river and mossy log for running swamp hazards, a massive city battle map of a domain of dread (Odiare) with over 50+ buildings and tons of other maps. I also want to finish Yester Hill with the Berserker Cairns and of course, continue the Interactive Tome of Strahd maps. Lots of great stuff in the pipeline so stay tuned!

Cheers,

DM Andy

Whoa! That is super creative of your party! I feel like my party would try something like that... but somehow fumble it and end up fighting all the things at once. That seems to happen to them often haha :) Let me know how it goes!

They really enjoyed the forest and its creepy atmosphere. I had a druid conducting a blood sacrifice on one of the altars off the trail, and a pair of berserkers who ambushed the party when they went to investigate. I already have your druid circle and gulthias tree maps primed and ready, but I don't know that I'll get to use the Cairns. They managed to learn that the druids worship Strahd like a god, and so they decided to have the bard with the Actor feat cast disguise self to appear as Strahd, and they have managed to bluff their way all the way into the circle without a fight so far. Our next session is going to open with them attempting to deceive the druid elder into burning down the effigy and making them start all over, because "Strahd" was offended at being questioned while they were walking up the hill.

Awesome!! How did they like the Druid Forest map? I hope it was creepy enough :) I'm finishing up a project tonight and I'm really hopeful I can get the Berserker cairns up as my next release so hopefully it'll be ready in time. That should cover Yester Hill as I already have the Druid Circle and Gulthias Tree maps done (and optional heart of the Gulthias map in case you wanted to add some extra content)

Andy D'Amato

Just keeping my fingers crossed they hold off long enough for your maps to come out. They're at Yester Hill now, and I just used your Druid Forest map for an encounter along the way to give them an idea of what they'd be facing there. You've been keeping about 1-2 weeks ahead of them so far, but if they make it off of Yester Hill alive, I have no idea where they'll go from there!

Awesome! My party had a great time at Argynvostholt. I personally used the mechanic from Lunch Break Heroes where the knights are struggling with their internal hatred and unless the players help them find peace, they will succumb and be like the other hate-driven Revenants. I actually wrote a small adventure to this on my Weeping Meadow map (https://www.patreon.com/posts/champion-tier-60390842)

Andy D'Amato

Oh, I can't wait to see what you do with Argynvostholt. Their Sunsword is hidden there with Vladimir, so they're definitely going to want to go there.

J.W. Singleton

Thank you so much!! These maps have been great to get familiar with the castle in small sections and get me thinking about the approach to building the official Ravenloft maps. It'll be a huge project but I'm looking forward to it! There is not much I have left to do before all of Barovia is mapped out and hoping to start the castle after I finish the last few maps I have for Berez, Yester Hill, and Argynvostholt.

Andy D'Amato

If this is an indication of what your Ravenloft maps will look like, I dearly hope you're able to get to them by the time my group goes to the castle, at last for the final showdown. They're level 4 and are at Yester Hill now. Your maps are amazing, they all love them, and would love to use them for the final encounter with Strahd.

Happy to serve!

Andy D'Amato

That’s perfect, you’re a prince :)

I 100% agree with you and I've updated the files attached for the day versions. Let me know if you need night updated as well and I'm happy to do so.

Andy D'Amato

if you don’t mind, i would prefer a throne facing forward. I like the idea of my players seeing subtle differences between Ravenloft before and after. And if the throne is not facing forward, Strahd does not see Sergei making his entry.

JM Tixu78

Funny you mention that. I looked everywhere to try and see if the throne should be facing forward and all I could find is a 4 yr. old Reddit post from a user stating it was that way in the original I6 module and also the throne in Argynvostholt is backwards as well so it seems to be a Barovian thing. Either way, I'm happy to create a version with the throne facing forward if you like. Just let me know! :)

Andy D'Amato

So great as usual Andy 👍🏼 Just a question, don't you think the throne should face the room? It doesn't in the present time, but in the time of the book I think it should face the audience, no ?

JM Tixu78

Awesome! Glad you are enjoying the maps. I was super excited to run the prologue from it yesterday and my players all really loved it. Your group will have a ton of fun!

Andy D'Amato

Really enjoying these! Can't wait for my players to find the Tome! Thanks for the maps :)
