Borengard Warriors (Lore)

The Borengard warriors have a custom of going without clotes to the battlefield. This tradition was born to honor Svlanyard, the Ivernian goddess of war. The greatest feat of the goddess Svlanyard was to face in combat the great celestial serpent Jorvamund, whose crawling caused inclement storms with which it lashed the world. After a bloody battle that left her badly wounded, Svlanyard anointed her body with the blue blood of her enemy, and drew patterns on her skin that healed her. From that moment on, when the goddess entered into battle, the painting appeared on her, offering her protection from danger, and that is why the daughters of Ivernjoll emulate through a ritual prior to battle the actions of their goddess, who will watch over their protection wherever they wield steel.

Despite this, the Borengard do wear a few finery, such as a leather belt to hold the sheath of their swords, as well as a necklace and bracers of solid gold accompanied by a bronze helmet adorned with the effigy of one of the animals of the Ivernjoll region. Although the Ivernians have access to new technologies thanks to the reign of Hereldein, they have only used them to improve their weapons and shields. The Ivernians' attachment to this military austerity is due to an enormous feeling of gratitude towards Svlanyard, since there was a time when, like the goddess, they had to face an enemy that surpassed them in size and power.

Las guerreras Borengard tienen por costumbre ir sin ropas al campo de batalla. Esta tradición nació para honrar a Svlanyard, la diosa Ivernia de la guerra. La más grande proeza de la diosa Svlanyard fue enfrentar en combate a la gran serpiente celestial Jorvamund, cuyo reptar provocaba inclementes tempestadas con las que azotaba al mundo, después de una cruenta batalla que la dejo malherida, Svlanyard unto su cuerpo con la sangre azul de su enemigo, y dibujo sobre su piel patrones que la curaron. Desde ese momento, cuando la diosa entraba en batalla, la pintura aparecía en ella brindándole protección ante el peligro, y es por ello, que las hijas de Ivernjoll emulan mediante un ritual previo a la batalla las acciones de su diosa, quien velara por su protección allá donde blandan el acero.

Pese a lo anterior, las Borengard suelen llevas unos cuantos atavíos, como un cinturón de cuero para sostener la vaina de sus espadas, además de un collar y brazales de oro macizo acompañado con un casco de bronce adornado con la efigie de alguno de los animales de la región de Ivernjoll. Pese a que las Ivernias han accedido a nuevas tecnologías gracias al reinado de Hereldein, tan solo las han empleado para mejorar sus armas y escudos. El arraigo de las Ivernias por esta austeridad castrense se debe a un enorme sentimiento de gratitud hacia Svlanyard, ya que hubo un tiempo en que, como la diosa, tuvieron que hacer frente a un enemigo que las superaba en tamaño y poder.
