i honestly think their dynamic is a little less compelling in this verse... like.. the strange/offputting vibes they bring is essentially from.. being drift compatible in a universe where that...doesnt exist...like their just-some-guyness is integral i fear.. but!
the angst potential of them being in each other's minds....too delicious to pass up on... a1 getting lost in the drift bc hes looking for mikey... a2 begging a1 to come back and a1 refusing to recognize him etc etc...
being able to literally read each other's minds would make them so much worse at communicating
