Poll: Vote on a new series!
Added 2022-07-07 16:00:09 +0000 UTCWe are thinking of introducing a new series to the channel (indeed, how exciting!). What would you all be interested in seeing as a series? Here are some descriptions below:
Rise of the Byzantines: Our story begins, as many did in the 3rd Century, with an assassination and an acclamation. At the close of the third century the Roman Empire was a state suffering under its own weight. Military momentum had long since died out, and the interior failings of the Empire were making themselves known. In 284 an officer named Diocles, known today by his regnal name Diocletian, cut a bloody path to power, much like nearly all of his predecessors throughout the preceding century of blood and civil strife.
Rome Against the Seleucids: In the west, a nascent empire had bloomed, bowing down to the power of Rome. In the East, the greatest of the Successor States had brought its power to bear. A king had emerged who had been granted the title of “the Great” while he still lived: Antiochos the Third, ruler of the lands from the Levant to the borders of India. He had consolidated control over a previously fractured empire, subduing rebellions and bringing his subjects into line under Seleucid rule. He considered the lands that had been originally held by Alexander as his by right of inheritance, and was willing to enforce those claims while seeming to be diplomatic about the whole affair.
Anabasis - the 10,000: In this video, we explore Xenophon's (writer and professional soldier) work, the Anabasis, meaning "the March of 10,000." It narrates the expedition of a large army of Greek mercenaries across Asia Minor to Mesopotamia in 401 BCE.
Third Punic War - Siege of Carthage: We go over the main engagement of the Third Punic War, the Siege of Carthage, a nearly three-year siege.
Antony's Parthian War: We go over the military campaign by Marc Antony against Phraates IV of the Parthian Empire.
