NEW VIDEO: What Did They Read? Roman Sci-Fi, Adventure, and Comedy (ft. Daniel Greene)
In this documentary, we teamed up with Daniel Greene to discuss what literature was like in the Roman era. We begin with a discussion of who might even be able to read at this time. Such literacy rates were higher than you might imagine, though there vary in estimates. Naturally, this would have depended on time, location, and demographics. We then turn to the various forms of Roman literature available, ranging from letters to poems and novels, each having its genres and a wealth of diversity.
