Legendary Weapons from Medieval History DOCUMENTARY

In this latest episode we look at the most powerful legendary weapons from Medieval history. One of my favorite is Hrolf Kraki's blade "Skofnung". It was said to be imbued with the spirit of his 12 berserkes, to have a snake which lived in its crossguard, to have a special pommel which must be protected from sunlight, and included a lifestone without which one could not recover from wounds by the sword. Its truly inspiring fantasy writing which I'm definitely stealing for my own D&D campaign.

What we covered definitely had a bias towards western, sedentary people who would have historically looked upon the sword as a status symbol (harder to make) and thus wrote more about them as legendary items. However even here there are examples of some legendary spears, javelins, and bows though they are more minor. If we do a follow up episode on other areas I'm sure we will see a difference

Other than Guan Yu’s blade and the magic arrows, it seems like all the other legendary weapons were all swords. I’m just wondering what the percentage of legendary weapons that weren’t swords is. For example, with all the steppe cultures throughout history, I would assume there were a ton of legendary bows. But maybe we don’t know of them because those people didn’t usually leave a historical record.
