I think Edwin’s dad is an avid fisherman and bird watcher, though his fishing trips usually meant 40% fishing 60% smoking/psychdelics depending on company… obvi when he’d make Edwin go with him it’d be family friendly but Edwin was perceptive enough when he got older that he put it together (or was told). I think Portia’s dad and him would go together or with a group of the guys whenever Edwin’s dad was in town (rare) and that was his ‘let loose’ time. Edwin enjoyed it because it’s 1. Quiet 2. Just hangin 3. One of the few times he’d see his dad and obvi as an adult 4. Join the festivities/his dad would hit him up for 🌿.

Obvi when he had kids, they gotta take the kid fishing! Portia doesn’t like fishing because it’s ‘boring’ but she’s TOTALLY into watching her kid try it like a proud mom. The trip ends up being more entertaining since it’s a mess, everyone ends up having fun, no one catches any fish, and as a consolation either the kid catches the tiniest fish, they go to the store and buy a fish, or it’s a goldfish in a bag because he’s a kid and who knows… kid proudly shows off his ‘catch’ and curses. Edwin originally finds it hilarious only to realize his kid is old enough to know how to curse, and cries about it and thanks Portia for their cool as kid. Portia and her dad think it’s hilarious after the ridiculous day they had. Edwin’s dad is unamused simply because he’s having war flashbacks to Edwin as a kid who was TROUBLE
