Canonically Birdie's hair is so choppy because it's supposed to be kinda like she has hair + feathers and whenever she has a hard time she healthily copes by cutting off a piece of her hair because thats just how she is. As a barbarian she probably cuts her hair a lot with her weapons just because she is bored
