After they start dating, they soon run into some roadblocks. Birdie has some serious abandonment issues, it's less "everyone leaves..." and more "i did something wrong, so I will be great all the time so they won't, and when they eventually realize I'm awful, I will understand" and feels like a burden, so she figures Raff will get bored/move on and she would still want to be his friend because she's LIKE THAT ya

Meanwhile Raff has some baggage from a p messed up long term relationship which included some emotional/mental destruction, along with cheating. So he can be jealous etc.

Obviously they work through it, and Raff has already adopted Birdie's conflict resolution so eventually he will be like "are we having a conversation, or are we having an argument" and birdie is like "BAH stop using my lines on ME gah-"
