I would hazard it's nothing to do with any ends coming, just different states of maturity for Pixie makes for different story potential. Can only do so much with naive innocence. Watching Brutus deal with adolescent Pixie is something I can totally sympathize with, as adolescents can be equally naive and mature, like above. (FYI, cats don't entirely grow out of adolescent brain and their zoomies just get a little slower.)
