Spreading the fungus infection via pizza does make a lot of sense. I like the new details such as how the tails have changed and the tighter focus on the details of the fungal caps. Its a good composition though I think I liked the smoother sketch look of the original comic too. Fun to see and I hope there will be more in the future as its an interesting idea.
