He never had a father; his birth father ran out on him, and his mother cycled through boyfriends, all of them being touted as The One that was gonna take care of them both until they weren't. And his mother had bad taste. At least one of them sexually abused Tusk, and since he grew up in the 80s, any hint of non-conformity was struck down with violence. Finally, one of the men went too far in abusing Tusk's mother that Tusk picked up a knife in defense of her... and she turned on Tusk. Tusk ran away, and probably after some time started living with Freedom, which is the beginning of the comic.
