Jack & Jill - Phase 9, Part 24

During a twisted social gathering of wealthy predators, Liam meets others like himself...

This one gets pretty heavy. Obviously, there's real psychological horror to what Liam and our other heroines are experiencing. Here, it's more about the mental anguish than anything graphic, but I just wanted to give you a warning!

(Nothing happens to Pixel 😸)

Thank you, Stacy. It was a tough chapter to write, but I felt it was important to show a different kind of cruelty than what we see at Clinic 12. With Second Dawn, the horror is often sanitized by corporate jargon and psychological theories.

That one was dark but I understand why you showed that. x

On an up note though, I love the Humane Society disclaimer up front announcing no harm came to Pixel in this episode. 🙀

Emory, I can't use my usual adjectives for describing your work. So I will simply say "powerful"! It is sad and disturbing, and actually left me feeling rather empty at the end. Not in a bad way. The writing was substantive and artfully crafted, but the emotions it drew out were so extreme, from shock, to anger, to horror, and even helplessness as the role of the reader is passive. Nothing the reader does can change the outcome. All the reader can do is keep their hands and feet inside the car until the ride has come to a complete stop. And when it does all the reader is left with is die Ängstlichkeit. Along with a pit inside the stomach trying to fight back a cold and nauseating sense of despair for all humanity.
