He beat MUI goku the first half of their last fight but goku won the 2nd half only because jiren got frustrated and checked out of the fight mentally therefore giving up. As for goku his body literally could not continue the fight although goku wanted to continue fighting mentally. Once Jiren got out of his head he was just as dangerous as before. Jiren was stronger physically overall but not mentally…that goes to goku.

But without the tournament Rules and holding back...If Jiren were an actual villain, they'd all be toast in 2 episodes. The tournament and prolonging the fight allowed Goku time to tap into Ultra Instinct. With Jiren being a no-nonsense machine, they wouldn't have stood a chance.

Lastly the reason goku is flashing in and out of super sayian is to show that he's drained his power but he's still pushing while his body can't maintain the super sayian form.

Then the granola arc starts (manga exclusive which will soon be animated too) then we see the next dbs movie which is also canon.

This has been keeping Super in a limbo. I don’t think we can see Super animated for a few years at least, until these companies get their shit together, and it’s such a pity. I’m pretty sure Daima was Toei’s attempt to release DB content that doesn’t rely on a manga, which means they don’t have to deal with the manga company.
