People who seen DBZ first tend to love Vegeta and Piccolo more than Goku because V&P were going through their heel face turns and Goku was more of a side character in Z because his development happened in OG which many people didn't or doesn't bother to watch. By the time Vegeta got the "secret sauce" Goku has been already using the sauce for over 20 years and he's nice enough to slow himself down so Vegeta can catch up. Once you guys eventually watch OG you will understand and appreciate Goku more like I have but we all still love Vegeta. Since I've seen the entire series Goku to me is the Goat because without him there would be no Vegeta no Piccolo no Gohan etc and thank Bulma for running Goku over with her car because all of this wouldn't of happened if she didn't

Once people who didn't see OG watch Goku's development and what he's been through before the Saiyans arrived they would absolutely appreciate him more. GT although not canon, was the one continuation where they kept vegeta's character like the one in this episode

He was more interested in creating a powerful and memorable character arc. I appreciate a writer that focuses on telling a good story more so than satisfying the fans.
