Imo “spoilers so stop reading if it bugs you” It could have easily worked as an alternate timeline where Ultimate Gohan kills Super Buu. Both Goku and Vegeta stay dead because they have no real reason to return. And explains why the boys already know the dance, as well as Gohan being able to kill Frieza so easily.
