Agreed Vegeta didn’t technically lose their first fight but I think he considered him having to fall back to great ape as not a “fair” win in his eyes. Among other reasons as well. Like Goku being the first sayian besides maybe his father that could actually hang with him in a fight. You can even argue that it wasn’t a fair fight because Vegeta ends up getting jumped by the remaining Z fighters that are around. I think it’s just Vegeta wanting to satisfy his pride and win in a one on one fight with Goku. With no outside interferences this time.

Whiskeysour

I mean...Yeah I get what you're saying. That's looking at it technically tho. Dissecting what the thought process of the character was and if there was a winner based on who was stronger. But the narrative, and why I say "Vegeta considers himself beaten" is because whether he knew he had more power left than Goku or not, the story tells us he was led to believe that in that moment..He needed to pull out the Great ape form to get the advantage (even tho he probably could've beaten Goku with whatever he had left).

Nate_TG

You honestly typed all of that to be dead wrong vegeta won since if you remember correctly vegeta didn’t need the great ape form lol he only thought he did cuz he couldn’t sense that goku was all out of power at the time while vegeta still had plenty left to beat goku so no he didn’t actually need the great ape form

Darren Metts

Let’s go! The fight begins!

I always contemplated wondering if Goku really did beat Vegeta all those years ago. When Vegeta transformed into the great ape, he had Goku beat. Limbs crushed and everything but this flashback shows...Vegeta considers himself beaten after that beam clash. He was forced to resort to turning into a great ape (a form that he looks down on) to get an upper hand. The great ape form was mostly used by warriors to wipe out inhabitants of planets faster, rather than it being used by Royalty and a show of their real power. When it came to their normal base forms 1v1, Goku had beaten him. That's something that vegeta could not stand. Then to go to namek and convince himself that he was the super saiyan of legend...Only for it to be Goku pissed him off even more. Get to Cell and not only did Goku surpass Vegeta and his super Vegeta form, but Gohan out of all people surpassed him too. Every moment since Vegeta's loss to go he has spent wanting to surpass him and prove he's the best...only for Goku to sacrifice himself and take that opportunity away from him. No matter how strong vegeta became in the last 7 years, I'm sure it felt meaningless because he knew there was someone who was better than him. He became soft and mild natured over those years, so much so to the point that when Goku was revived for a day, he didn't allow himself to challenge him right away, instead he went along with the other distractions. He needed this Evil spell to awaken the heartless saiyan he once was. Once that disregarded everything and everyone for his own ambition. This is why he needed this fight. The next few episodes are gonna really be interesting into explaining how the mind of Vegeta worked.

Nate_TG

I appreciate you guys, this was my fav episode ever in dbz

Alfreddd

@TheBlackSpider1610 - And how does that warrant Vegeta being an irrational manchild to Goku, who has done nothing to him? Goku spared his life and tried to be his friend, so Vegeta wants his head on a pike while the world is in danger again. Geez. @Blake Majors - Eh, only about a handful 😜 And I don't hate Vegeta... all the time. He has some badass moments and I'm not oblivious to the fact that he probably has the most character development in the franchise. He's definitely top 3 for me.

Mike Litoris

Lmao the comment saying none of you would get it like this mfr knows vegeta personally or thinks he’s anything like him. Vegeta is a little b in this, simple as that. It’s the type of thing you tell someone irl to “get over it”. He needs to swallow that tough pill because he’s only alive due to Goku. Don’t get me wrong, I get what his reasoning is but it doesn’t mean we have to “like it”. Shit is insane

Jay Emerson

How many comment sections are you gonna use to bla bla bla I hate Vegeta bla bla?

Blake Majors

You just don’t get it do ya, Vegeta is a prideful warrior and he was raised to believe that he was the best and for him to be bested by someone that is supposed to be weaker than him (lets be honest without all the help Goku got as a kid and the training he got from Master Roshi, Korrin, Popo, and Kami, Goku would most likely be weaker than Vegeta especially when Vegeta had to get where he is on his own he had no help like Goku did growing up) of course it would be frustrating and then on top of that he got bested by an 11 year old boy, well at least 7 years ago he did, but again none of you wouldn’t get it.

CyberWolf300

Being raised how he was I guess he just couldn’t accept the fact that he had to have help. Hell, Goku gets help all of the time. Just a lesson Vegeta needs to learn still at this point in the series.

Whiskeysour

*sigh* Geets with his blah blah blah Pride! I wish I were a Karrot! Prince of all Saiyans! narrative blah blah blah. When Goku asked him if this was the same old story between them, he was right. And Vegeta takes offense to Goku saving his life on multiple occasions. His kindness is something that Vegeta dangles over his own head. That's his own problem, not Goku's. He owes Veg nothing. And it was nice of Goku to give him a few minutes to continue yapping about his pride. I agree with Alexis, Goku never did anything to Vegeta. In fact, if it weren't for Goku, Krillin would've offed him. Man seriously needs to get over himself.

Mike Litoris

It’s crazy though because even if Vegeta didn’t defeat frieza… the next best thing kill him and that’s was his son… also Vegeta help killed cell technically… Vegeta really has no reason to be upset. It’s just his ego and pride is his biggest weakness.

Smitty

Majin does seem to give a slight boost but like I said in an earlier post. Goku having a dead body gives him extra stamina. That’ll come into play later in the saga, and be explained. So Vegeta getting majinized really only leveled the playing field. Goku was most likely a bit stronger as a SSJ2 compared to Vegeta before hand though. Vegeta seems to be having a mid life crisis here and felt like his new found feelings for his family were holding him back. On top of Goku being the first SSJ and defeating Frieza instead of him. A goal he’s had sense he was a child. It really fucked with him and has been living in his head rent free for years now.

Whiskeysour

It’s crazy because in reality Goku has technically never beaten Vegeta. … but Vegeta just doesn’t think Goku as a low level warrior should be able to compete with an elite saiyan prince. Vegeta’s ego is his weakness.

Smitty

Vegeta he’s already dead ☠️
