That Scatter Shot or “Hellzone Grenade” as it’s also been called would have destroyed him for sure. Unfortunately Cell sensed it too. He would have had no way of tracking the cyborgs down but by Piccolo engaging with them and giving him something to sense. He lead Cell right to them.
