Cell killed the trunks in his timeline, not the one we know. Like trunks said, even if he helps destroy the androids in the past, that doesn't save his timeline he still has to defeat he androids in his timeline. So yeah, different universes basically, what happens in one doesn't affect the other.

2024-03-04 02:20:11 +0000 UTChonestly at this point the Z fighters might as well start an alliance with the androids because they have a bigger problem lol and besides I noticed these androids in the present timeline aren't as evil and murderous like their future counterparts, they just want to kill goku and not just go around on a killing spree. trunks said present day 17 and 18 are stronger than future 17 and 18 well that may be true but their not as cold blooded like the droids in the future timeline

2024-03-03 17:44:57 +0000 UTCDB Time Travel operates on Multiverse Theory which is the theory that proposes the idea that time traveling doesn’t take you back in time in your own universe but it instead creates a new timeline So The OG Timeline is the very first timeline, it’s virtually unaltered by any time travelling events. In the original timeline, Goku kills Frieza and King Cold on Earth instead of Future Trunks. He dies from the Heart Virus a couple of years later and the events of “The History Of Trunks” occur. The 1st time travel event happens when Bulma initially made the Time Machine. Unseen Timeline A timeline created by the Original Future Trunks going back in time the first time. He likely kills King Cold and Freiza like he did in the main timeline. Warns Goku of the Heart Virus and the Android threat. Trunks somehow found a way to defeat the Androids of the Unseen Timeline and went back to his timeline (the OG one) to destroy the androids. Eventually, Cell shows up as Trunks tries to go back to the past and kills Trunks and steals his Time Machine. As a result of this, The OG Timeline has no Z-Fighters left alive but in the process Cell going back four years prior creates the H.O.T timeline The History Of Trunks Timeline Pretty much a copy of the OG Timeline but at the end of the special Trunks goes back in time which creates the Main Timeline we’re following right now. Time Travel is nuts man.
