Chapter 64: Artoria and Lancelot
Added 2025-05-21 10:03:41 +0000 UTCLooking around at everything nearby, Artoria felt a deep sense of peace rising within her. This truly seemed like a place where doors werenât locked at night and lost items were returned by others. More than that, the relationships between people were warm and genuine.
This was exactly the kind of world Artoria had always dreamed ofâand here, it was reality.
âSister, buy a flower,â a little girl said, tugging on Artoriaâs sleeve. She was an adorable child, her cheeks rosy, her clothes a little muddyâclearly from gathering flowers herself.
âLittle one, Iâm sorry,â Artoria said gently. âSister doesnât have any money with her.â
âThen Iâll give it to you, Sister!â
âWhy?â
âBecause Sister is very beautiful! It would be a shame if you didnât have a flower to go with your beauty.â The little girl smiled innocently. Her cute, sincere expression warmed Artoriaâs heart. She accepted the flower and asked gently,
âLittle one, why are you here alone?â
âBecause I need to help my family earn money.â
âWhat?â Artoria glanced around at the prosperous surroundings. âBut isnât this place quite wealthy?â
âYes, but... Iâm not from here.â
âYouâre not?â
âIâm Saxon.â
âWhat?â Artoria froze. Memories of countless battles with Saxon forces flashed through her mind. But how could there be Saxons here?
The little girl seemed to understand her confusion. Perhaps she had experienced too much already for someone so young. She looked down and explained quietly,
âIâm the child of Saxon prisoners. Both my parents were captured, and since Saxon refused to ransom us, they abandoned us. But thankfully, King Arthur didnât mistreat us. He treats us just like the others. Weâve been given our freedom, and now weâre working hard to build a new home here.â
âHome? Donât you want to go back?â
âGo back? The country gave up on us. If not for King Arthurâs kindness, I might not even be alive. I shouldnât stay long, SisterâI still have flowers to sell. Goodbye!â
She left cheerfully. Artoria watched as passersby bought the little girlâs flowers, and not a single one of them showed even the slightest disdain.
âStrange, isnât it?â a voice said from behind. Artoria turned to see Lancelot standing there, smiling.
âKing Arthur once said that all people are equal. We mustnât judge others through colored lenses. If one day we conquer Saxon, wouldnât it just become one of our provinces? Thereâs no point in harboring hatred.â
Artoria broke into a cold sweat. Those words... were surprisingly bold. But perhaps that was exactly what this world neededâan open-hearted view that could truly bring about peace. She smiled and walked forward. Sometimes, humor and confidence really could dissolve long-held tensions.
Seeing her relaxed smile, Lancelotâs eyes lit up with interest.
âI wonder if I might have the honor of inviting you to my humble abode?â she asked.
âOf course,â Artoria replied, smiling back. In Lancelot, she saw the shadow of the Knight of the Lake she had once known. Following happily, she let Lancelot lead the way.
As they walked, Lancelot excitedly explained every detail about the area. Her passion and joy were infectious, and Artoria found herself smiling more than she had in a long time.
Finally, they arrived at Lancelotâs home.
âGuinevere, we have a guest!â Lancelot called out. âWelcome my friend!â
To Lancelot, Artoria was more than compatibleâshe was a close and cherished friend. Artoria didnât object.
âA guest? Who is it? Gawain? Kay?â came a voice from inside. A beautiful woman stepped into view.
âYouâre... Guinevere?â Artoria stared in surprise. âYouâre a woman!â
â...Thatâs a bit rude,â Guinevere replied flatly.
âSorry, I just didnât expect it.â Artoria quickly bowed her head. She had heard that Lancelot and Guinevere were together, and was happy for themâbut she hadnât imagined both would be women.
âWeâve lived in the modern world for a long time now,â Lancelot said with a playful smile. âIs that really so shocking?â
âAnd you are...?â Guinevere asked, clearly puzzled.
âHello, Iâm Artoria Pendragon,â Artoria said, smiling politely.
âPendragon? Royalty? But I thought Arthur didnât have any relatives?â
âSheâs also King Arthurâjust from another world. Oh, and in her world, Iâm still a man.â
âIf you were a man, I wouldnât have been led astray by you,â Guinevere muttered.
âWhat did you say?â Lancelot blinked, not having caught it.
âNothing. Just wondering if you have ulterior motives,â Guinevere said, teasing. âEveryone knows youâve always liked Arthur the most. Now that this oneâs a woman, arenât you...?â
Guinevere had already heard plenty about the Holy Grail War from the Round Table Knights. It didnât take her long to accept Artoriaâs presence.
âHow could that be?â Lancelot denied firmly. âI donât like her at all.â
âDinnerâs ready. Please come in,â Guinevere said, smiling.
âThank you for your hospitality,â Artoria replied.
They entered the house and sat together. Watching the happy couple, Artoria felt a deep sense of comfort.
âYour bond is strong, isnât it?â
âOf course,â Lancelot said.
âAnd you and the King?â Guinevere asked with envy. âTwo versions of the same person from different timelines, together... thatâs so romantic.â
âIs it?â Artoria looked at the two before her, clearly lost in thought again.
âWhat do you think of Lancy?â she asked Lancelot curiously.
âNot worth regretting his death,â Lancelot replied coldly.
âBut... he had his reasons too.â
âI know. Because I am also Lancelot, I understand that if our roles were reversed, I might have made the same choices. Thatâs why I understand him better than anyone. Deep down, he wanted to die by your hand, didnât he?â
Artoria nodded. Because they were both Lancelot, she found unexpected solace in her heart. Without saying another word, they both raised their glasses.
âCheers.â
âCheers.â
As the wine disappeared from their glasses, Artoria found clarity in her heart.

Elsewhere, Arthur had spent the entire day carrying Gilgamesh on his back. Thanks to the many strange gadgets Gilgamesh had on her, Arthur hadnât noticed anything off.
âMy footâs fine now. You can put me down,â Gilgamesh said casually.
âWhat? Iâm not tired at all.â
âYouâre enjoying carrying me, arenât you?â Gilgamesh kicked her legs. âEnough! Put me down!â
Arthur released her, and Gilgamesh instantly leapt down, sprinting ahead like a wild rabbit.
âHey! Whatâs your name?â Arthur called out, intrigued.
Gilgamesh didnât answer immediately. She just kept running. But then, as Arthurâs voice reached her, she turned around slightly. Under the moonlight, her beautiful face was breathtakingâenough to leave Arthur dazed.
âHehe... you want to know my name?â she said, smiling like a queen. âI wonât tell you!!!â
With that, she turned and vanished.
Just as Arthur lowered his head in disappointment, Gilgamesh peeked her face from around the corner.
âIf you can still recognize me next time... Iâll tell you.â
And then she was gone.
But as she disappeared, it felt like a piece of Arthurâs heart had gone with her.
âWhy...? Why do I feel like Iâve known her forever?â
But sadly, no one could answer that question.
