2023-05-07 17:06:56 +0000 UTCAs cruel, and as you said "evil" as Murtry is, if Holden killed him after winning the stand-off, then Holden would effectively be legitimizing Murtry's actions through the season. Remember up to this point Murtry has only killed murderers. Those Belters that he killed weren't exactly "good" people themselves. But of course, the issue is that Murtry took it upon himself to act as judge, jury and executioner. And if Holden decided to finish off a disarmed and defenseless Murtry here, Holden would be doing the same. I always find it a little amusing when people want Holden to finish off Murtry this episode, after having (very understandable) issues with Murtry's actions throughout the season. It's not to say that I don't also agree that Murtry probably does deserve to die, but I think the show is very cleverly trying to show the audience the irony in those feelings and our bloodlust lol.
