Building Upon Ideas!

HEYS GUUUYS!

Here's one more Q&A video for you all!

Sorry I didn't say hi first, I recorded these in one go but later on decided to chop them into two videos, otherwise it'd get too long.

I want to go in depth with all questions, so some videos might get a bit long! xD

So today I answered one of AeroDog's Questions! Thank you again for asking me these, and thank you for your epic support!!

You guys are AWESOME and I'd absolutely LOVE to hear your thoughts on this video!!

Thank you for everything!!!!!!

Those notebooks are the coolest thing ever!! 🀩 If there's anything that says you're a creative person with a vivid and highly active imagination, it's definitely gotta be a book full of doodles and random ideas you've jotted down 😁 That map you drew is so neat! I know I've seen that somewhere before. The art book maybe? I'm not sure, but man, I just love that! It really helps me to better visualize the sprawling and diverse world of No North! You know I really dig that desert! That's probably my favorite part 😁 I hear what you're saying about music too, I know how powerful the inspiration from that can be! πŸ‘ And it's interesting to think that there are bits and pieces of No North that are based on your own lived experiences. Seems that's the best thing to draw from when you're coming up with ideas. I think it's interesting how you describe a story's structure like a tree, with a central theme as the trunk and other related ideas coming out of that like branches. I'll have to remember that πŸ‘ And oh, look at all that lovely concept art!! πŸ˜πŸ’–I don't even have the words to express how much I love it! The atmosphere of some of those works is so incredible! The ones with Delilah in the garden have such beautiful lighting work! It really does a lot to bring this world to life and make it seem, in my mind, almost like a real place! I especially like your comment about taking things slow and not being hard on yourself when developing a story, and that might be the most important thing for me to keep in mind. You're probably somewhat aware at this point that my character Shane has his own canon, but it's still rather vague. For years I've struggled to really begin piecing it all together and building it up. And I think one of the biggest hurdles in my way for so long has been that when I actually sit down and try to come up with stuff, I tend to be rather hard on myself and expect too much. I think the simplest way to express what I've experienced is that it's very much like Martin and his struggles with writer's block - staring at that blank page and having so much difficulty moving past that stage. I remember mentioning something about that when I commented on the page where we see Martin sitting at the train station in Dawnville. Putting it like that, I'm sure you know exactly what I mean πŸ™‚ The main thing that I have so far is nothing like your idea board. All it is is a synopsis I typed up and have tweaked repeatedly for how Shane's story MIGHT go. That is the foundation, but I've struggled a lot to build upon that. The main concepts would stay the same, but there's also a good bit that is subject to change. Most of my ideas are really not even written down anywhere, they just exist perpetually in my head! πŸ˜† I think an important take-away from this video is that I just need to write it down somewhere. And I've always thought that following your example with the idea board could be a very good way to do that πŸ‘ Great video, I think this overview of your creative process might be a good model for me to follow. And I love the editing you did here, it's all very well done! And yes, I think this video helped a lot, and I think I'll keep rewatching it in the future as a reference πŸ™‚ Thank you for taking the time to answer my question so nicely, I really appreciate it!

Oh my goodness this is so cool. I LOVE the world building!! It's so cool. You need to visit Colorado sometime - there are so many cool gold rush era western spots!! I've walked around towns and thought "I feel like I'm in No North haha." Taking projects slow... gosh I felt that. I go back and listen to some of the music I did way back when and shutter LOL. But you live and learn and improve. Thanks for inspiring us Skailla! ALSO!!! Chief and I are going to see LORD HURON LIVE this month!!! Gonna get long lost at Red Rocks >:)
