Beyond The Star Ep 3
Added 2025-03-26 14:00:11 +0000 UTC
Hey Primos!
Good morning and welcome back. It's time for another episode of Beyond The Star Ep 3, Pursuit of Happiness. Last episode we saw the guys giving so much of their time, energy and passion to everyone and everything but not finding time for themselves. We saw some sneak peaks of where this may be headed and are excited to jump back in today.
How is this episode over already? I feel like we say that every time. A lot of flashbacks today to their last 2 nights in Seoul. Glad we squeezed that concert in when we did so we know all what was said beyond just the snippets we saw today. Love how the guys are so vulnerable and show us not just the good but the bad and allow us to embrace them more. Such well made episodes.
Hope you guys enjoyed this one.

What irks me is that fans of other groups (not all) get so offended sometimes when a member or several members mention that BTS paved the way for other Asian acts but esp. K-pop in the western world. Like BTS were the first to everything so of course they played a huge part why is that so bad for the fans to acknowledge. That doesn't mean their artists don't work hard but to completely deny and ignore the work BTS put in for all of this to become possible is insane to me.

I don’t think Bang Pd foresaw their burnout or anything like that. BTS had spoken among themselves about quitting and I’m sure through management it got to Bang Pd’s ears. Obviously, the series would show him in a positive light, just him thinking and caring for BTS. But keep in mind that BTS still had to decide if they would continue their contracts with the company or call it quits and this was obviously not something, as the CEO, Bang Pd would want. No hate towards Bang Pd as I’m sure in his own way he truly cares about the members, but at the end of the day he is a business man and he wouldn’t want to let go of his golden eggs (BTS.) I mean he is no longer the ceo of a small company but the chairman of a corporation.

They definitely paved the way and many other groups know it and acknowledge it. Their hard work and dedication and perseverance has been mentioned by other groups when they do lives or similar things. The leader of Stray Kids, Bangchan, has mentioned it before, and I think Stray Kids is similarly finding levels of success because of their sincerity. I really think you all would love the Stray Kids of it all as well, if you ever decide to deep dive on another group. There's no denying the lightning-in-a-bottle, cosmic success of BTS though <3

I can’t speak for everyone but I only know of kpop because of BTS! And I also know after diving deep into this rabbit hole that BTS did open a lot more doors for kpop in the decade they have been active than so many companies that tried to do it before them with multiple groups! It’s the sincerity and talent! There is no one else like them 💜💜💜

Oh for sure BTS opened a lot of doors for kpop idols coming into the Western Scene!
Of course through the hard work of those groups and their fans, also helped them reach outside of Korea, but it really does have to do with BTS being the first Korean Act to break many records within the western music industry.
Now at days you see many kpop groups being promoted through famous YouTube interviewers, award shows, and record breaking collabs with western artists as well!
I like to think that thanks to BTS, many people who never knew of kpop outside of Korea definitely gained exposure to all sorts of talented groups, who are also making their mark within the western music industry.
As always, love your videos and commentary, can’t wait for the new uploads. Love yall! 💜

to answer Summer's question of whether other artists do this, they somewhat do. Western artists not so much but kpop groups in general do, now is it as impactful and as vulnerable as BTS has done? i dont believe so. BTS started alot of things in the kpop community that are seen as normal content now and days. They started communicating with fans in such amazing ways back in the day, starting with their youtube and twitter content which was not common at all. I hope you guys eventually get to their first videos and work your way up, the boys used to do album reviews, daily blogs, variety shows and even the process of how their tracks came to be(beats, melodies, & lyrics). Up until the military service, namjoon has done BTS album reviews with so much detail and behind the scenes information that go for over an hour long sometimes, i love and miss those lol. These guys put so much effort in letting us know what goes on with them as artists, to the point where you feel like theyre your real life friends. I can tell you that since i first discovered them to now, they have not changed in the slightest and I have been a fan of other groups before them but i have never experienced such a beautiful bond like i share with bts 💜 one of a kind group for sure ! P.S. BTS did pave the way and i hope you get to watch "BTS Paved the Way" by BoraCityMagazine in the near future !

I love how transparent and sincere they are. They are not scared to share with us what they truly feel even those feeling of burn out and toxicity in their line of work because that is something that is normal in every work. They trust us enough that they know that we know that even though they say those things we know that everything they do and say is true and sincere but of course they are only humans like us, they get tired, sad, angry, etc. I don’t think I’ve ever seen any other artist documentary as sincere, real and transparent as a bts docu.💜💜💜

The cameras in their rooms are at their convenience, they turn them off when they doesn't feel and on when they want to show something.... And I think them showing us their reality and sincerity is what makes the fandom respect their space and privacy.. The fact that we witness their struggles makes us aware of the fact that we need to protect to make things easier for them.
Also yes BTS definitly paved the way although no one achieved their impact still even tho some managed to fabricate some numbers through many tricks... But BTS did it while being totally under a korean label with only a distribution deal with a US label which they didn't have really a choice... And the fact that other korean acts began to be more known in the west after BTS shows that BTS gave credibility to the Korean music through their art, work and talent starting from the bottom while they had absolutly nothing without the help at the time of famous producers or songwriters... It was only their team with Bang PD, PDogg.. etc and themselves.

BTS definitely paved and opened up doors and opportunities for other groups
They’re the reason kpop albums are on the shelves in retail stores now - especially in the US, as it started with them first
Sure other couple older groups have been placed on the charts and invited to talk shows a couple times
But now many kpop groups are now easily invited to award shows and talk shows for promotion and there has been lots of exposure because of bts - you can see how much more prevalent it is
New award show categories related to kpop have also developed because of them as well
But many other achievements have only been accomplished by bts, such as sold out stadiums and influence - yet the media can make it seem like everyone is on the same playing field
But yes, their impact has been huge and clearly visible

Yup, BTS paved the way. In many ways. Loved your reaction. I was thinking it'll be great if you see the concerts in between the episodes, just like you did for LY/SY, the narrative is better that way. But I understand that that'll slow down this documentary.

BTS DID pave the way, it's just jealousy as usual. Just like when parents say to their child, that they are giving you everything so you can have opportunities that they didn't have. It's the same with bts working so hard to get success they didn't know that became possible and groups have it easy now to get success overseas. Don't bite the hand that fed you

a lot of kpop artists are more exposed to the world now obviously and are gaining more fans faster than they id 5-6 yrs ago and also are achieving a lot of good ranks on charts but a lot of the things that bts did was only done by them like the stadium tours which other kpop groups are yet to do in the scale that bts did also theres a lot of mediaplay now cause mtv is giving out awards to anyone who attend the award shows who actually dont fit the criteria for the award so yea theres some weird mediaplay to showcase that other kpop groups are doing what bts did but if you actually look into it its just mediaplay however some really talented idols are getting the desired success and are showcasing very good results - you should watch the suchwita episode with hoshi a member of kpop group called seventeen where he literally points out all the things that bts did as idols and how now it has become the norm for idols to do those things and its neccessarily not a bad thing some say its copying but i would say its just being inspired by them and do things in their own way taking bts's framework

No other kpop group has filled stadiums like BTS yet. Many venues had to lower their prices to fill them and even give them for free. Recently a group had to cancel their stadium concert due to the low ticket purchases. Another group had to put black curtains for the empty upper part of the venue. So no, there are still no other groups on the same stadium level as BTS.

a lot of kpop artists who debuted after bts do documentaries now cause bts docu series are so well recieved before that some famous idols did a documentary but it didnt have all the thought process that bts does have in theirs its more like a behind the scenes of their concert making but after bts first docuseries in 2018 i have seen many artists doing docuseries now even idols who just debuted with 1-2 yrs of being idols are doing docuseries and yeah now in kpop world a lot of things thst bts did are what became obligatory things to do if your an idol they literally changed how idol industry works and interacts with their fans

About that "different award" they got, that was an Order of Cultural Merit given by the government to citizens with really relevant contributions to the country. BTS were the youngest people and (still are) the only K-Pop group to ever receive that, and it was also the reason why they were the only male k-pop artists with the right to postpone their military service entrance. They received it from the president himself! No matter what people say, BTS paved the way 💜

Honestly, BTS has paved the way for kpop for sure. Yes, other kpop idols went to the US before them and made it on the billboard charts, but none had the same impact and consistency that BTS had and still have in the global music market. Other fans from different kpop groups will tell you otherwise, but one thing is clear, and those are the numbers and stats.
Because of their jealousy and inferiority towards BTS and ARMY, we are seen as the black sheep of the kpop industry. Not acknowledging that breaking into the global music charts became easier because of BTS.
Still even after enjoying all the benefits they got, none has made an impact on the world like BTS.
A good video to explain this "pave the way" is from Boracity (I hope some day you'll watch some of her videos):

Yes to that. Definitely
It's way easier to get interviews, performances, nominated for award shows etc.
They have paved the way for other kpop grps. It's the western industry trying to box everyone in because they don't like seeing their funded acts being overtaken.
But that doesn't negate the fact that I don't like seeing some groups resort to cheap tricks to get things that BTS worked so hard for. It just decreases the authenticity of it.
Be sincere with your art. But I guess it's just business for some
Isha
2025-03-26 15:14:14 +0000 UTC
But BTS definitely opened the door and led the way to make it easier for new kpop..And the artists themselves beleive this. They say it all the time.
Alice Smith
2025-03-26 15:10:57 +0000 UTC
They aren't really filling that's the thing. It's all reduced capacity. Which irritates me a lot. Because you want to be treated the same but then you end up using cheap tricks to get there.
Isha
2025-03-26 15:09:01 +0000 UTC
Western industry as a whole does not enjoy foreign acts to overtake their own acts which they are funding.
So armys have noticed that they have a tendency to box in kpop. Make a diff category for them, not let them compete in the bigger award categories (which bts can win according to their stats),
Get snubbed despite having the biggest song of the year because they are Korean and cannot win over their American peers.
It's a constant battle for fair representation because BTS despite their status are still to this day treated as aliens in the industry. And not given their fair share of rewards that they deserve
Isha
2025-03-26 15:06:34 +0000 UTC
..l also only listen to BTS but l'm aware that there are many kpop groups filling the same stadiums in the US as BTS right now. But BTS definitely were the first and always will be. Some of the award shows added the kpop category because of BTS. There's always a debate among kpop fans about BTS paving the way for others because there were kpop groups before them to come to America..But we all know that BTS made kpop more popular internationally..And even the kpop groups say BTS paved the way..Even Psy said it..They are friends with many of the other groups and most kpop respect and are cheering for each other..it's the fans who are always adding the drama. Straykids are very big right now and there are many ArmyStays who love both groups..
Alice Smith
2025-03-26 15:06:33 +0000 UTC
BTS paved the way
I wont say that other kpop groups are anywhere near bts's status or popularity. They still have a long way to go in multiple aspects
But BTS breaking the door open has definitely made it easier for other grps to walk through it.
It's easier to get invited for interviews, chances to perform at award shows etc. Though the prejudice for foreign acts still exists.
