Beyond The Star Ep 2

Hey Guys!

Welcome back. Today we are watching Beyond The Star Ep 2! We are working on getting these docuseries names right! We loved Ep 1, loved the format and all the feels. Excited for today's episode so let's jump in.

And the episode ends with Blue and Grey! 🤯 Today's episode has us feeling mixed emotions and a little sad as the guys deal with slumps and finding balance. Love how they give us a glimpse of not only the good but the hard times too.

Let's talk it out in the comments, how are we feeling?

I actually felt/noticed something was off during their promotion of fake love in 2018 (love yourself: tear album feels so personal, deep and sad) but couldn’t be completely sure.. but only to knows my gut feeling was right all along especially when they cried so hard during MAMA and got to know they were thinking about disbanding and all, then all these behind the scenes got released. But I didn’t know it was that bad BAD it really broke my heart. I remember bts suddenly had a month break at that time and everyone had all black hair that’s the moment that they kinda had rest reset refresh moment. I can’t wait for you guys to react to bts festa dinner talk 2018.. they shared a lot of honest talk there too on what they experienced and how scared they were when they suddenly blow up in america starting from AMAs.. they were scared of the sudden fame and spotlight and with that came all these scrutiny over the smallest things and ofc ever bigger hate waves (at this point they’ve already been thruuu it since debut! but now even the scales of hate become global + death threats + burnout + unable to experience love n life like normal people or their peers + doesn’t have time to live life at all they don’t even have time to have friends.. they worked 364/365 days and all of these things piling up. Honestly It’s really a wonder they withstand and hold on strong up to this day 🥹 for me BTS were and always will be special. A one of a kind group that is fated and also so genuine, work hard and love each other genuinely. I know for sure no one could replicate a group of artists like them not even Bang PD.

Lala

it hurts so much seeing them talk about 2018, it was a really hard year for them and we didn’t know at all 😕 and it breaks my heart remembering everything yoongi went through last year…

sasadso

BTS, thank you for persevering through difficult times💜💜💜💜💜💜💜

Lindy

I don't know if this has been said but there a 2018 vlog that Jimin did where he talks about his feelings about them having trouble. It'll give more insight to their mindset during that time. https://youtu.be/EwM24PQOj_Q?si=zjlAfEK_4VvOH2NF

VRodriguez

the sad parts of their journey are what make bts such a compelling group… to experience such endless strife and still choose love & light

mads

this documentary makes me cry in every ep. Fake love era hurts so much because no one knew what BTS was going through.

Honestly, it’s sad seeing him say all this just to see how he’s acting now🤦🏻‍♀️

Big story is that, most boybands feel/know they have a time limit due to conscription. Bts spend 2-3 years of their careers, which is half of their contract, just trying to hold on enough to continue, and right i their 2nd half, they start to see a huuge rise nonstop. They cant slow down bc its just time and opportunities lost within an already limited time period. Theyd need to enlist in 2020 anyways… just when they get through the burnout and get excited to perform again, in late 2018-2019, theyre faced with military enlistment. So they plan to have their biggest cb ever and biggest tour ever, see armys all over the world, go to countries they had never been to… and covid hits.. altering not just their plans for 1 year but for 5 years basically, and they knew it.. they wanted to have a parting performance, a banger, a huuge meeting with armys through tours and performances, to fuel us untill BTS would be back from the military in 2022-2023, but they had to scrap all the plans. People gotta understand fans are everything to BTS. Not many artist can say that. Some can talk of love and gratitude sure, but as Joon said, no one truly can understand the meaning of ARMY. they always feared losing us, hence all the intricate plannings and timings and covid just enhanced that fear as it would mean they wouldnt be able meet with ARMYs as 7 before they had to be apart for 3 years.

Abby saying she’d be so upset if she was there during 2017-2018 era and it’s almost like that in 2022 during Festa too tbh. I wasn’t upset they wanted a “break”, I was upset to hear them talk about agonising - not knowing what to write anymore to the point it felt like they’re squeezing every ounce of themselves, feeling like they lost some of their individuality, the whole enlistment thing (something seokjin’s been targeted with since he was like 25)… But we can see the light at the end of the tunnel now! We’re almost there! For the time being, we’ve got Hobi’s tour to enjoy.

KC

It's actually quite crazy the change from then to what is happening now 💀

I even myslef had being bolied just cus i love “the asian little girls” “with makeup and dont understand what they’re saying “ man i was too little for that but i get back from school and open a new run episode and they make me laugh again

Ghala Lan

I always interpreted the song Fake Love being about their lack of emotional fulfillment from their fame. Not to say that they don't appreciate the love of ARMY, it's clear that they do, but that kind of fan to artist love is something entirely different from what an actual human needs in their life to be happy. I relate the "fake love" and "hide my weaknesses...be your doll" lines to them talking about being in constant performer mode and not enjoying their youth. It especially upset me finding out that they felt this way knowing the completely unreasonable and insane societal pressures that Korea forces upon their celebrities (especially idols) and the fatal toll it takes on them. It's really scary to think about so I try not to. Seeing Yoongi come out looking so depressed in front of reporters to address his bs of a controversy recently was heartbreaking. I always hold on to hope that they are strong enough to not let those judgements and pressures get to them and can find happiness amidst so much fame.

Nikita M

Man 2017 was crazy too i was the sadeest to see my boys get raices comments evry where that much man i was fighting for them in twitter with my life i hate twitter now for reaall 😭😭😭 they were so crowl to them cus they dont know them its scary how people could be scared of new things its crazy that they were little boys and took it bravely and broke that shi t for once and for good i couldn’t watch beyond the star tell now but I’m being brave to watch it with u guys thank u its just good to know that ur not the only one that’s feeling bad and hurt for them 😭😭😭😭😢

Ghala Lan

Abby, I totally agree with you. I've been with BTS since 2014 and Fake Love is my favorite era. Not only that, but Love Yourself: Tear is still my favorite album. And then to learn at the end of the year (the infamous 2018 MAMA Artist of the Year speech) that they had contemplated disbanding before releasing it...while working on a project I loved so much...I became so conflicted about how much I treasured that album and era. It was a project birthed from their pain, and to have that context and re-listen to all the tracks and re-read all the lyrics..it all just hit differently. As you said, I was heartbroken to learn how much they had been going through (and honestly, this doc doesn't even show half of what BTS and ARMY went through in 2018--it's an infamous era for a reason 😭). But in the years since, I've truly truly come to treasure that era and the BTS of that era once again. It's often said that the best art is created out of the darkest moments in an artist's life and following BTS' journey has proved that to me. To think of the pressure and then ALLLLLL the negativity, false accusations, and attacks that BTS was receiving at that time, at the greatest peak of their career (at that point), I'm in awe of the art they were still able to make. It's so evident to me that they poured their pain into that album and that that's why I love it so much... that that's why the quality of the music simply stands out to me the way no other album can. I've come to love that era for an entirely different reason. It means so much more to me now that I know what I know, and I hope you can eventually reach that place too...and I'm also thankful for the relationship we have with BTS. Their willingness to be honest and share that part of their journey with us is a privilege I don't take lightly. Edit: It also reminds me of how meaningful 2019 and the Persona/Boy With Luv era were for BTS and ARMY. Ahhh you just had to be there, it was magnificent, but I'll save that spiel for next episode lol

Ahjusshi_Brown

You guys watching this episode reminded me that you guys seriously need to start reacting to more BTS Episodes. I know you guys watched the one for the Butter Grammys appearance/performance, but you've watched so many of their award show performances now that I seriously think they need to enter the rotation soon! Just as a reminder, BTS Episodes are behind the scenes vlogs of all of BTS' major events. So, award show appearances/performances in the US, their appearances at UN general assemblies, their appearances on US TV shows like Ellen, GMA, and America's Got Talent. Whatever major appearance or event that you can think of over their 10+ year career, there's a BTS episode for it. (Like in this episode, there is a BTS Episode of their time at the 2017 BBMAs aka BTS' first major appearance in the US and their performance at the AMAs. Actually, a lot of the clips in this episode are from those vlogs lol). All of them are posted on bangtanTV (BTS' YouTube channel, not HYBE's) but the older ones don't have subtitles so you'll probably have to watch on the youtube channel: bangtansubs

Ahjusshi_Brown

At 23:22, j-hope is essentially talking about the same thing as Jin has sung in his Another Level. You fall, but you also get up. You lose points but you can gain them back. The fact that there's ALWAYS another level is like a gift, but you need to remember what steps you took to get to where you are. Game is over when you stop learning.

Melanie7

What misinformation are you referring to?

RJyoongi

I think it was a big shock to find out that they were actually going through so much that time. I don't think ARMY had a big idea of their struggles at the time just because they didn't want to bring that energy into concerts and appearances knowing that ARMY had been waiting so long for them. We were all very shocked to hear the extent of it during Jin's speech in 2018. I think they have been talking about that time a lot more lately, probably because it's a lot easier to share after going through it. Knowing what I know now, going back to their content during that time I feel very different. What struck me the most was Taehyung mentioning that they could not love themselves during the love yourself era. They definitely did not let it show back then, but hearing that made my appreciation grow even more for them.

ChaAreum

bang pd has definitely been associating with questionable people lately and at the end of the day he’s still a businessman who cares about expanding hybe and making more money. hate is a strong word but he deserves his fair share of criticism cuz these shows and some army won’t ever admit to the flaws he indeed does have!! he may have genuine love for the boys but we’re here for bts and bts made hybe what it is today and i hope bang pd never forgets that!!

nina

I think he's done a lot of good for BTS and I would say he's the lesser evil compared to other kpop CEOs but he is one of the biggest reasons BTS recieved a lot of hate especially during chapter 2, because where is he when BTS is recieving major hate and backlash because of his doings? He's always in hiding and never steps up to protect the guys. I definitely don't hate him because of all that he's done for the members but his actions recently have been very questionable

Zahra

Yeah it's hard watching this. I know things got a bit better but it's still very difficult to see how much they really went through.

smilehoyaaaaa💜

The constant hate is exhausting. The sheer amount of vitriol directed at Bangtan throughout the Min Heejin vs. HYBE controversy was infuriating, and don’t even get me started on Yoongi’s incident. ARMYs are often labeled as a crazy fandom, but the truth is, it’s mentally draining to see BTS being relentlessly criticized and their achievements downplayed. Many of us found comfort in their music when we needed it most, and they’ve become such an important part of our lives. Watching people tear them down day after day feels like a direct slap in our faces.

Sarcaamstic

🙂

Ayazhan Kuantayeva

and what’s your proof on that? a man doing his business to make sure his business does well and expands is just a man doing exactly what he needs to do to keep the business running. all the reasons i’ve seen recently are due to misinformation and lack of knowledge. if BTS has a problem with how the business is being run, bighit will hear about it. and to remind you, bighit is a private entity and has nothing to do with how hybe is doing its business. what Bang PD is doing with Hybe’s expansion is just right business-wise. If the boys don’t trust Bang PD and how he works, they would have packed their bags as quickly as they could.

AGB

2018 was a hard year for the members. But we as ARMYs didn't actually know just how brutal it was! It was their speech at MAMA 2018, that gave us a tiny insight into their struggles. I remember crying so much watching that. I was hurting for them and I was hurting because I felt bad about not knowing about their struggles. And I felt scared because we almost lost our 7 wings. I'm so utterly happy that our boys fought and won their battles and that they are still here today with us! I miss them so much and I can't wait for them to come home!

Line Henriksen

I laughed when gabriel choked but I choked immediately after. I hate karma😀

Remas

What Abby said about fake love at the end is completely relatable. After seeing and knowing the hardships, it breaks my heart to even see the Fake Love mv. The theme of that song alone is about masking your emotions and that’s what bts was doing at that time. none of us knew what they were going through. they always had a smile on their face during broadcasts and lives. I love these guys so much, and owe them my life for bringing sm joy into my life for multiple years, even when they were suffering heavily. they truly care about army and it shows. I’ve never seen such a strong bond with any other artist. this is their best documentary series in my opinion. so raw, detailed, and real. 💜 im glad you guys are watching this, i see the realization in your faces hit when all the pieces come together. whoever made this series did an amazing job at describing and showing everything in order.

laura

I think multiple things can be true. Criticism of Bang P.D should be allowed, he's said and done some weird things but I do not think hate is ok esp. body-shamming when the boys can see those comments and also have suffered from body image issues themselves. But we should also acknowledge that he did has protect the boys and guided them early on in their careers. Making Big Hit a private company was a big thing.

Yodit Y

My favorite aspect of this docuseries is hearing the hyung line’s thoughts on everything they went through. I can really tell that they’ve put in the time to understand the emotions and highs and lows of their journey.

Ali

I don't agree with some things he's said but and I think some of the criticism is valid but you should never send hate. He also made the very important step of making Big Hit a private company protecting BTS, TXT and Lee Huyn. People jump on the Big Hit/Hybe hate train for the sake of it sometimes. Do they deserve valid criticism at times, yes but they do protect the boys. Like just yesterday it came out HYBE has been working for 2 years tracking people who have been leaking flight info on the boys, it took 2 years of gathering evidence and tracking these people down. People want change over night and it's not how things work. Also i do think people are mad about the witch (I wont call her by her name) but I honestly believe no one thought she was the snake she turned out to be.

Yodit Y

I was watching while eating and I went from happy to almost crying into my bowl lolol. But this was really sad, even seeing them refer to controversies. I think it puts a lot of their resilience and ARMY’s reactions into perspective.

kika

Hearing Yoongi talk about no one wanting to be the bad guy just reminds me of the army theory that Seesaw was written during this time about the boys and them quitting. It gets to me every time

lis

Some fans just don't agree with a lot of the things he says or does, personally, I started being wary of him since I saw some of the ways he managed and treated the boys since their debut, he has done a lot of things to protect his reputation and keep being portrayed as the "master behind BTS" (giving no credit to the boys themselves) and not even trying to protect Yoongi from the thousands of defamatory articles and vile hate campaign against him, he is very pro AI even after Namjoon made a presentation of how harmful it could be to musicians, he is partnering with people that believe they can make "a next bts" with BTS's money... and idk about all of you but him being besties with Scooter Braun who is famous for treating his artists terribly (and that's putting it lightly) doesn't sit right with me, there are a lot of reasons to not like him. He is money-hungry and a lot of us thinking that it's quite reasonable I would say. Bang PD is not BTS, HYBE is not the BigHit some of us were fond of.

el

bang pd may have genuine love for the boys, but he's definitely a hungry chairman at the end of the day.

Kayla 💜

Gah! This documentary is so well done! I remember watching it and loving the feeling of living their journey through it! Ofcourse it still doesn’t show EVERYTHING but paints a good picture! BTS and ARMY have stood strong through it all and the fandom is even bigger now 😃😃🥰

BZ

His storytelling is so good! No wonder he is so good at hosting Suchwita 😃

BZ

Me too! I can't wait. When we recived the schedule post today it really started to hit me that they are coming back in 3 months!!!

Zahra

As always, Daniel’s memory is amazing!

BZ

The past two years have been hell on all social media platforms especially Twitter (x), from collective to individual members hate has been overwhelming! But I am so happy the members are coming back soon from MS and I hope they come back happy and healthy!!

BZ

Watching this just reminded me of how much I do NOT understand the people who hate Bang PD (or even HYBE). Bang PD has always kept the guys' mental health in mind, while guiding them to the levels of success that they have reached. Some "fans" are just SO weird to me. You can see multiple times in this video - as well as how the guys all interact with him in other clips - that there is mutual love and respect between them all.

Lisa

i`ve honestly just never forgiven him after forcing Jimin to show his abs on stage when he said he felt uncomfortable (and he was a minor)

dee

We can appreciate & be grateful for all he has done for the boys throughout the years and at the same time also acknowledge that he has changed since having all the fame & power. I love & trust BTS but that doesn't mean I have to idolize BangPD too.

RJyoongi

I became army in 2015 late June, and then after looking back at their predebut and debut content, I just became out of nowhere protective of them immediately. My first time seeing how much hate they were getting was like so disgusting and just crazy in general smh. I just couldn't describe it at all.

Kearyce Moore

tbh bts never tells fans what they were gng thru when they are going thru it they always tell us info about personal struggle after they overcame it so duri g those years army was unaware of what was gng on and in concerts we all thought they were crying bcz they are emotional about their journey -this all cameout to us in dec 2018 and then by 2019 they were able to get thru it and then bam covid hit us

Shreya

While I don’t think Bang PD deserves to be hated on so viciously, some of the criticisms against him are valid. Two things can be true at once: we can appreciate him for all he’s done for BTS but also expect accountability.

Ceejayhey

Sadly the hate towards them has not stopped. They are still recieving unnecessary hate even while they are in the military and it's sad to say but the bigger the artist grows there is more hatred towards them, I don't think the hate would ever end. I would suggest that CCW look it up themselves to find out what sort of accusations BTS has had against them because there is still a big portion you guys still don't understand. Right now the biggest case was SUGAs incident and there was also the accusation that BTS was in a cult which lead to other stuff which then lead to majority of the SK government turning their backs on BTS, it was a whole big issue. I know that you guys see Bang PD as the good guy but there are various opinions about him, I appreciate everything he has done for the guys but he has been the main reason especially recently for the accusations against them because of a feud he has with another "producer"/director, which is a story for another time. I know we always laugh and think that they are happy beings but they are just really good at hiding the pain and with content like this you can just see it on their faces. They've been through so much throughout the years it would be hard not have it affect you at some point. You can really tell that they've grown and are more confident within themselves now I recommend watching Boracity Magazine on youtube, she does a really good job at describing certain topics and issues

Zahra

How has he not been prioritizing BTS?

Nana Ama Obeng Nti

it’s a bit scary how well they were able to mask their emotions and sufferings during tours, content, lives, and etc. but i guess it’s something you’re able to, or i supposed, have to hide when you’re expected to be happy by millions watching you constantly. i love how honest and sincere they are, and it’s their whole thing to be as authentic as possible, which i appreciate, but it still makes me a bit sad.

Tyler

This is always so hard to watch because at the time they were going through this I was a new Army in 2017-2018. I had pretty much fell in love with them, so to then find out how much they were struggling not only broke my heart but kind of locked me into becoming Army officially. I just wanted to support them for as long as they would allow us. 💜 That time really solidified how I felt towards them. Fake Love era was different for sure… I remember seeing their Vlives and actually seeing how burned out they were becoming over time. BTS were the first artists to show their vulnerable side wholeheartedly for me. :(

Jess Min

I also don’t know why he’s been criticised so much by army, he obv plays a big role in BTS success and we need to thank him for what BTS as a group is today. However the truth is we will never know what actually happens behind the scenes until someone comes forward and say something. As long as that never happened, I trust the guys and they seem ok with him and that’s what matters.

APOBANGPO7

I'm sorry, I thought i typed this for another comment. I remember saying I wanted give the guys a big hug when jin announced that🫂

Kearyce Moore

Omg you have no idea how much exhausted, mad, all of the above in general i was during those times. I wanted to type the nastiest things on twitter at the time of the break wings project, and more, but I'm glad I had work to keep my mind off that besides the guys.

Kearyce Moore

I remember telling them that Disney played 2 episodes each week.so it was only 4 weeks instead of 8 weeks with 6 more to go. The show itself is only 35 minutes so its like watching and album reveiw.

Alice Smith

Thank you so much CCW

Chiii<3

you’re right daniel !! that was when they found out they were going to hawaii for bon voyage s2 :)

minimoni

Pls do my love!

Chiii<3

Yes 100%. I don’t think he’s evil or anything, but the money definitely got to his head. He has not been prioritising BTS, or us fans. He’s just very greedy now

Chiii<3

every time I hear the whole "BTS paved the way" this is the time I look back to. They had no one (other idols) they could talk to because NO ONE had been in that place/situation before. Suga brought that up, they only had each other.

Charmaine Flynn

as a 2014 fan... we knew about the criticism (my Kpoppers, etc) and the talks on plagiarism but we didn't know about their personal struggle. We didn't know about the disbanding talks until Jin told us during MAMA 2018. Looking back I guess there were hints (RUN BTS picnic episode - their poems by the campfire, for instance). But we didn't know.

Charmaine Flynn

You know what? I just watched this episode 2 yesterday and I watched it again with you guys today. I don't know, it just feels like I am watching it with a friend, and so I am like we're sharing the same emotions with you guys. I am so excited for the ep 3 lol

borahae BTS

Well no he’s obviously being criticised for the right reasons i feel like he got swept up in all the fame and money and changed.

tumtan

These days, there’s a lot of misplaced hate against Bang PD. If you hate Bang PD, i’ll assume you have no idea about the history of BTS. Bang PD has raised BTS well as artists and individuals. They cares about their welfare and take their opinions, ideas, feelings, etc. in consideration. You don’t hear a CEO of a label caring about their artists like this in a personal level. That’s why I can’t take any disrespect against Bang PD cos he did a lot for BTS. He guided them through this journey. He was a leader, a mentor, and a role model for them. He’s not perfect, but he’s better than most of the people in this greedy music industry.

AGB

I love this documentary so much 💜

j_y_o_t_i

Abby, actually the writer they are showing is the writer of the book Beyond the Story, not the docu movie 😘

JengHoseok

I haven't been an ARMY for too long but from everything that I have consumed it's not at all shocking that 2016-2018 was really hard on them. Looking back at the material they released they must have worked non-stop during that time. Like Tae and Yoongi said on Suchwita it was all uncharted territory, no one from Korea had been in their position, so both them and the company were just pushing forward. I'm happy they could sort their situation out and find themselves in a much better place mentally and physically.

Yodit Y

I love how Suga articulates how they were feeling at that time with a pinch of humor, sarcasm and metaphor.

Mimi

I agree! I remember being so excited when they won AOTY at mama 2018, and all of us being completely shocked and in tears when Hobi started the speech crying. You can even hear the gasps in the audience when Jin admitted to a possible disbandment. We had no idea. Bravest ppl I know, truly, they’ve been through so much and still do in current times but they still pull through. it’s admirable!

laura

I LOVE this documentary so much. 🥹💜 Great reaction CCW, I really enjoyed it 🫶🫶 Now, Wednesdays are my favorite days of the week 😂

Laura

As someone who lived all these moments in real time, I can tell you that they did a damn good job at never letting us feel like something was wrong. We never knew that they were going through all of that until Hobi cried at MAMA 2018 and Jin brought up disbanding. We were all shocked :’) But they have also said that they’ve never been through such a low since then, not even during COVID, so that’s good at least.

zaphyre

Me and my sister were at the amas in 2017! My video quality was so bad (lol) but I’ll look through my old phone and share on discord

I don't know if you know this, but j-hope moved into the dorm just a month after Yoongi did. Suga moved in in Nov. of 2010 and Hobi did in Dec. of 2010. So Joon, Yoongi, and Hobi have all been together since the beginning. They're all three Bangtan's foundations and musical pillars.
