obviously i can't speak for all women (whose feelings are valid!) when i say this song wasn't offensive (to me) but i do think the majority of hate they got for this song was purely to bring them down like you said. this was a point where they were really starting to break through to mainstream kpop and people didn't really want them to win. even within the kpop industry, there were so many songs at the time that are truly objectifying women that didn't get the same hate bts got for war of hormone. and also, like you mentioned, these are just the thoughts of teenagers who are first diving into the world of romance/dating/sex so it makes sense that it comes off a little strong. some of the word choice could have been better but to me it still doesn't even come close to offensive

But as someone that has been an avid fan of rap and hip-hop...the lyrics are not offensive at all. But the way they handled the controversy speaks volumes about their characters. Still makes me sad that they'll never perform this song live ever again

2023-02-22 08:01:47 +0000 UTCI don't enjoy songs that specify 'girl' or 'boy' so when I learned that RM wanted to use 'friend' but lyrically it didn't work (stupid English lol) it made me like this song 100% more but still sad they used 'girl' in the end, tho at least it wasn't the original desire to do so. It would've been amazing if they had switched it up during the song and used 'boy' as well but the Kpop world might have imploded over it. :/

People just wanted to hate them for everything, so this was kinda a perfect thing for people to pick on… for me personally I didn’t get offended at all honestly. It’s just boys being boys and they say beautiful and not like sexy so I kinda feel like it’s not degrading or anything and saying how women are the best thing in the world. But Rm took women studies and stuff after all the hate so even tho the song itself wasn’t harming for us women, he still took his time to learn how to respect and talk about women🫶🏼

Dark and Wild, their first full album which WoH is a part of, is definitely a masterpiece. From RM’s Intro What am I to You, to b-sides such as Hip Hop Philer, Let me Know, Look Here, to the Outro: Do You think it makes sense, it’s full of gems and really good songs the guys worked on in their early years as a group. It also shows the constant evolution in music style and quality. Truly amazing. Hope you can listen to the full albums one day. Thank you for this reaction :)

As a woman being told that Im perfect from head to toe or that im the best present is honestly something I'd take very positively lmao. And this does not in any way stray from BTS' direction. They wanted to capture every little part of youth and growing up and naturally puberty, hormones, getting more conscious of your desires is a big part of that. The haters werent offended, they literally started the controversy AFTER BTS started getting more popular, not even when the song was released lmao. Just nitpicking, and looking for something to hate on and blow out of proportion or take out of context.

A crop top/skirt?), that is so wrong to say. I have only seen one kpop idol get on a pole as you say and she is 25 years old. Also a lot of time it’s the company telling them what to wear. Those girls don’t have much of a say.

Not only did they own up and apologize to those who they offended (mostly by mistranslated lyrics btw), but they actually followed up that apology by consulting women's study professionals to review their lyrics for their other up coming songs. They even made a feminist anthem (21st century girls) a few years after the incident. They've really proven themselves to actively educate themselves about the issue while constantly speak for equality. Not to mention they are very well aware that their fanbase is female dominant, and while most male artists with female dominated fanbases do too, bts aren't ashamed of it. They love us loud and proud and that's something i've never seen a male artist, let alone a 'boy band' do with their fans. It's a different kind of feeling to truly be appreciated and celebrated by your favorite artist 🥰

The entire outrage was ridiculous, and had more to do with Parents and Korean culture than fans. I totally agree with you, all of you. However right or wrong Korean culture forces teens to focus on education and getting into a good college. Do a little research on the subject. I feel so bad for all kids in Korea. IN fact, Korea has a had a zero population growth in the past few years and the reason is it's so expensive to raise a child in Korea, and Couples don't want to do to a child what was done to them. They’re held to this extreme “moral standard” because that makes it easy for antis to just point to things (like WOH) as a gotcha moment. All they have to do is say “BTS’ misogynistic lyrics” and they know non-army will probably just take that at face value and do no further research. After the backlash, Namjoon said he has consulted with a women’s studies professor on lyrics for their opinion. So now, those same antis use THAT as a gotcha moment saying “why does he need a professor to tell him how to not be a misogynist.” Anyway, WOH is a fun song and video with an intention of expressing a specific sentiment that got twisted and, as others have said, it sucks they’ll almost certainly never perform it again.

It’s actually a very moderate and fun way of saying what teenage boys are experiencing in reaction to teenage girls. Translations make a big difference too. I enjoy the MV very much. American music is far more offensive!!!

She really gets BTS now 😊 Our boys have always been respectful, and after this, RM even said that they've become more careful with their lyrics that they even consult an expert or like a teacher to examine their lyrics if it would trigger a certain issue again at every aspect. Well, haters and antis would just say whatever to pull Bangtan down.
