Billy boy’s sensitive side, you guys!
He does his best to hide his hobbies, but with sneaky-nosey Steban around, you can’t have much success.
After some awesome comments from one of my patrons, Doggokittty, on some Billy drawings I posted, I thought it would be cool to share a little bit more about him and his life/past.
His parents, small farmers, separated when he was only a small pup. He stayed with his mother, who couldn’t stand weakness of any kind. Apart from all the bullying he suffered from her, she was all he had.
It didn’t take long for her to remarry. His new stepfather backed his mother up on the senseless bullying, together with his new stepbrother. Billy became angrier inside as time went on, since that outsider joined his world. One of his only comforts was knitting, something he did since puppyhood, and which always calmed him down. The day he was caught knitting by himself, the bullying was intensified by a thousand times.
Billy finally overpowered his stepfather, who was already ageing, impressing his old mother for the first time. He left home to join the Enders not long after, joining Baltazar on his treasure hunt. Everything seemed amazing again, until Steban arrived in town (not going to tell much about this part, sorry!).
He was everything Billy hated. An outsider – and a weak one, who seemed to pay no mind to rules nor to his higher hierarchy status. Steban’s careless attitude quickly gained the group’s liking, but Billy felt as if he was stealing his rightful place. In his desperation, Billy bullied him, but Steban wouldn’t bow, always having a witty comeback to throw. Whenever that failed, Billy would overpower him physically (whenever he could catch him, that is), beating him up. Lucky for Steban, the Enders were often there to stop Billy before something serious happened.
Billy holds on to the past, afraid to let the “new” in. He is addicted to order, status and hierarchy, and fights with all his might to keep his position and be respected, keeping things from changing. He does, however, still knit. That is one of his only moments of “vulnerability”, so he stays as far away as possible from other dogs.
Steban has no problems with what Billy calls "weakness". He calls that “nature”, and believes everyone’s should be respected. Steban doesn’t like to hold grudges either, and he makes the effort to try and see things from his perspective, even though Billy’s humiliation can be crushing.
The freedom-loving mutt caught Billy knitting one day, as you can see, and realised how good he was at it! And if there’s something Steban can’t keep to himself is a compliment, even from his worst rival.
One of the only good moments these two ever had.
A little trivia: it was Billy who sewed the Ender’s bandanas. But Baltazar’s the only one who knows about this, so shhh!
Have an amazing day, you guys!!!
