The Show Must Go On p13

yeah . . . it's taking me some thinking, but i might be starting to get it. (a fair amount of my reaction, i think, was that i shut down whenever someone raises their voice, but that's another story lol)

Confrontation is hard though, Papaya! The difficulty, ooh it's intense. No, really, I find myself completely siding with Papaya here. There's a certain stubbornness even in the most passive people that has a lot of push-back to ever try and reach through. Surrounded by a maze that's a damn good way to put it. There's also this other element that's real frustrating too. Others have brought it up. Since we are bystanders to this story, we're only seeing this conflict as it's reaching this Zennith. It's easy to get up and arms and try and advocate for Quill because it does appear in the short-game that Papaya's just being hostile to be destructive, with the end goal of being destructive. Where all too often, someone who needs that kind of push is let to just limp forward in life, because authority and society has stigmatized any kind of aggressive behavior- EVEN if it's an act of intervention. No need to get all political for the real world but damn even in fiction this kind of "tough love" is so completely absent. It's the kind of stuff I wanna hear vicariously. My blood turned cold on that reference to Prologue. I thought for sure that things were about to get existential in here. Thank gosh not yet

hmm i take what’s going on from two angles, i guess. 1, that glip usually doesn’t write about one sided conflicts or relationships where there’s no fault in whoever is speaking the most, and 2. that well... i can relate with papaya because what we’re seeing here isn’t the full story, it’s just the moment where this conflict between them blows up. and speaking from experience it’s really very difficult to ‘get through’ to people who are very avoidant and also somehow expect you to read their mind. people that don’t really let you in but you’re still responsible for the way they feel! the two of them kinda sound like they’ve been around the block on this argument (or at least papaya has lectured him on this) many times before. like quill saying, ‘wow, i wonder where this is going’. quill disengages the moment he gets uncomfortable and it’s frustrating for papaya who clearly wears her everything on her face, and values seeing legitimate emotion from people. not to say this is like justification to scream at people (or your friends for that matter) but i can see why papaya might be so frustrated right now.

. . . ii am totally missing the point. Papaya's talking about being a bad friend, but a) keeps yelling at Quill, and b) doesn't even let him finfish his thoughts sometimes? idk, but it's really hard to empathise (hah) with her on a less serious note, she definately hasn't had any managerial training. that's workplace abuse
