I wouldn't say they're sending the 86 to another suicide mission; they're sending them because they know they're the best and most likely their best chance at succeeding in this type of mission. If anything they're more prepared compared to beforehand because they have the backing of 3 countries and support. This is also the problem with the 86 where they despise people pitying them. A toxic trait they developed from their time in the 86th sector, fighting for their pride, leading to alienating them from other people like the Federacy soldiers. Where the latter would look at this mission as impossible, the former just thinks of this as another day which sort of leads to one of the reasons for the animosity against the 86. Also you can skip those .5 episodes as they’re mainly recap when the show was delaying episodes due to production issues.
