📝Pipers Production Diary 23/09/14

Hello, fellow Pipers!

Finally, last week, all the thumbnail sketch work has been completed! (Wow!!) 

And starting this week, I'm gradually moving on to the task of transferring the finished drawings to concept art and storyboards. The workload is quite extensive, and I'll be even busier as I prepare for another animation funding project, which has a deadline on the 21st.

So, this week, I'd like to take a moment to share some thoughts on the theme of 'Art Style'.

The backgrounds for the current storyline are divided into three main branches:

1. The 'Narration' explaining the world of the Pied Piper Man musical.
2. The 'New York' where Eugene and Wendy live as Ratians.
3. The 'Musical Performance' with Eugene and Wendy portraying Genevieve and Dawson on stage.

So, I'll be selecting three different art styles to work with. The depiction of the real New York is expected to follow the lines and background feel of the webtoon, so I'm not worrying about that much... However, I'm contemplating how to make the narration and performance scenes similar yet different in terms of the feeling they convey.

Currently, the most promising choice is creating 3D backgrounds that give the impression of paper being set up in a three-dimensional manner. 

This approach allows us to maintain a fairytale texture while effectively utilizing Piper's characteristic camera movements. However, I have a desire to explore various stage effects such as lighting and acting, rather than stopping at animation techniques. So, these days, I've been looking into various musicals' lighting designs. Unfortunately, there aren't too many performances I can remember for their lighting effects😭

안녕하세요 동료 파이퍼즈 여러분!

드디어 지난주, 모든 썸네일 스케치 작업이 마무리되었습니다!(와아!!)

그리고 이번주 부터는 슬슬 컨셉아트로, 그리고 스토리보드로 완성된 그림을 옮기는 작업을 진행중이에요. 작업량이 굉장히 방대하고, 21일날까지 마감인 또 하나의 애니메이션 재정 지원 사업을 준비하면서 앞으로 더더욱 많이 바빠질 것 같아요.

그래서 이번주의 주제는 짧게, '아트스타일'에 대한 고민을 공유하는 시간을 가질까 합니다.

현재 결정된 스토리의 배경은 크게 세갈래로 나뉘어 져요.

1. 피리부는 사나이 뮤지컬 세계관을 설명하는 '나레이션'

2. 유진과 웬디가 살아가는 레티언이 있는 현실 '뉴욕'

3. 무대에 오른 후 유진과 웬디가 연기하는 제네비브와 다우슨이 서있는 '뮤지컬 공연'

그래서 아트스타일도 총 3가지를 선택해서 그려나갈 것 같아요.

현실 뉴욕의 이야기는 파이퍼즈 웹툰의 선과 배경느낌을 따라갈 예정이여서 비교적 고민이 적어요. 하지만 나레이션과 공연 장면은 서로 비슷하면서도 다른 느낌이 날 수 있도록 고민중이에요. 

지금 가장 유력한 후보는 종이를 입체감있게 세워둔 것 같은 3d 배경을 만드는 것이에요. 동화적인 질감을 유지하면서 파이퍼즈 특유의 카메라 움직임도 잘 활용할 수 있기 위해서지요. 하지만 애니메이션 기법에서 멈추기보다는 조명이나 연기같은 다양한 무대효과도 같이 연출해보고 싶은 욕심이 있어요. 그래서 요즘은 다양한 뮤지컬의 조명 연출을 찾아보고 있는데요, 빛 연출을 기억하고 있는 공연이 얼마 없어 많이 아쉬운 상황입니다😭
