New cover
Added 2024-07-28 21:19:25 +0000 UTCHello! Due to overwhelmingly bad feedback on my old cover, I have redone it in anime style. What do you guys think of it? Do you like the old one better, or new?

You know, like the kind of thing you would see on an wild west themed book with that riding off into the sun vibe, but, you know, apocalyptic. Actually, I have a subscription to OpenArt AI generator because I use it for a lot of my own character design and creation stuff, maybe I could try and make a few mockups?

2024-07-28 21:59:40 +0000 UTCGood point. I did not envision the MC looking exactly like either cover. He is very thin (especially after getting the nanomachines), has mid-length hair, and is a senior in high school. Unfortunately, I don't have the thousands of dollars needed to get a real illustrator to create my cover.

2024-07-28 21:55:14 +0000 UTCTo be honest, both make the protagonist look like a bit of a wimp. He doesn’t look as masculine or even close to as badass as his actual personality is. He looks like he’s a nerdy pretty boy who hasn’t exercised a day in his life. In the old one it was his face. In this one it’s his shaggy hikikomori, ‘did it blind with a knife whenever it got too long to avoid having to go out and talk to people’ haircut. I just ignored the front cover and pretended the mc looked nothing like the guy on the cover because I wasn’t a fan of the face and didn’t care if my mental image of him didn’t match the author’s visualization (no offense meant), but it might bother other people. In the story the dude is a hardcore warrior in spirit, even if his body doesn’t look the part quite yet, so I’d suggest going more for a apocalyptic paranoma or of a hostile fantasy world with a more stylistic back outline view of an armored guy looking out over it so you can’t see his face as a better marketing strategy. That way people can just stick to their individual mental images of what the MC looks like without getting jarred out of it or put off by a face that doesn’t match that staring at them from the cover.
