thorgi's giving darkstalkers a bit too much credit cause asuka 120%, which released 4 months before darkstalkers is arguably the first anime fighter since it invented clashing and had a massive impact on the doujin fighter scene in Japan. French breads first game (Queen of hearts 98) has moves taken straight from asuka, and Daisuke has stated that asuka inspired the gatlings and clashing in gg.
