Good to know! I definitely need to give BBTAG more time then to really appreciate what it has to offer.

BBTAG will always be my favorite fighting game and it’s got a lot to do with how it has something for everyone. I absolutely do not blame you or anyone else for seeing “autocombo” and questioning the depth of the game upon doing so, but it mainly serves as a starting point for people that have never played a fighting game while also not hampering with what middle, high, and top players are doing. It is very rare that going for a full A autocombo is the strategically best thing to do in any given situation (and it’s actually pretty hype when it is and the player recognizes the circumstances) but much more often players will go for routes that are more optimal for damage, positioning, oki, etc. so off the bat it’s already doing something that a lot of other fighting games are currently struggling with which is allowing beginners to get a little more than a couple stray jabs at a time while also making it pretty clear to those new players that when they are invested and ready to take their play to the next level, there is plenty of room to improve and even better, to decide how they want to improve. The actual combo system is quite intricate and rewards you for creativity because it adds some stipulations but if you think outside the box sometimes you’re able to work around them and “break the rules” in a sense and it feels so good to figure it out especially when there is an advantage to doing so beyond just styling. The skill ceiling is also just as and sometimes more demanding than the majority of other fighting games to the point where I can very confidently say that even with the absolutely cracked players that have made names for themselves throughout its competitive history, there has not been a single player that has fully mastered bbtag. Fast paced is an understatement when it comes to the speed of the game so it makes sense that even the most aware and consistent players will crack because there’s just too many things to keep track of at the same time in some scenarios. Even so, when you watch top level footage you can pause it and get an idea of just how much decision making is going on and it’ll leave you even more impressed than if you just saw it live and didn’t go back. Because of this, this game to me feels like the perfect balance of low skill floor but also extremely high skill ceiling and I understand why it’s not as popular as other fighting games (a part of it really did have to do with first impressions and the dlc scandal and such) but I will never stop loving bbtag. I’m really trying to not compare this specifically to other fighting games too much because I don’t want the takeaway to be “that game bad my game good” (a sentiment that is unfortunately a little too common in the fighting game space) so I’ll just leave it at there are even more reasons why I prefer bbtag and maybe at some point I could talk more about why but I would have to add a big asterisk because some would possibly get the impression that I only like bbtag but that is far from the truth and I actually play and appreciate most fighting games, it’s just that bbtag scratches all the right spots, some of which I doubt the developers even intended to scratch but they did so anyways and boy am I glad they did. If you ever do end up playing bbtag with Cerby please let me know because I’m always down for helping new players get into the game. At the moment I pretty much exclusively play on console but it’s just because it’s the most convenient for me but I did just recently buy it for PC (there’s a sale right now and the whole game with all of the dlc is like $10 USD) so since I’m assuming that’ll be how you two would play it, I’ll find a way to play it on PC with y’all even if it might be a little scuffed. Also based on this you can tell that bbtag unfortunately doesn’t have crossplay because that was only until Strive that they started doing it but even so both PC and PS have their own pretty small but tight knit community with some overlap and if you want games, usually you can ask for some in discords and such and you’ll get some even during gremlin hours.
