Yep! That's kinda what I was thinking of when it came to evolving the Necromorphs to have those organic ranged weaponry. Could have had some lore reason why they merged with mechanical parts to become better killing machines or something like that.

Xero Degrees

Tyranids are also packing heat, just organical kind: eating bugs launcher, chitin spikes, venom crystals, bone pikes, bioplasma and such.

Co-op horror is a risky move. Sure it's a lot more fun to play with a friend, but it's a lot less scary when you narrowly escape being fed to alien monsters by Elton John when bro suddenly runs into the scene and starts aiming all over the place like it's Garry's Mod. But between the paid upgrades to your character, the highly customizable guns, the co-op and being able to craft a lot of things it almost felt like they were unintentionally making a looter shooter disguised as a horror game. As for the third games in EA's series being bad, there's Mass Effect 3. The ME trilogy does things quite different between games to the point where if you could magically cut out bits and pieces of all games and paste them into a single whole you would get something truly exceptional. Mass Effect 1 has the best RPG mechanics, 2 has the best interactions with the companions and 3 is the superior shooter. Structually they're also very different: 1 is basically KotOR where you start with the tutorial and introduction to the setting, go to four planets to solve some issue, then convene onto the endgame. 2 gives you the introduction, then can select a number of missions until you hit the story beats like it's an episodic TV show with a companion of the week. 3 feels like a tighter narrative with several side branches to support the main story. Just make sure that you do all the side stuff first before continuing the main story when playing Mass Effect, otherwise you might end up regretting it. Mass Effect 3 was also the one that introduced lootboxes to the multiplayer segment, where you can unlock characters, abilities, gear and upgrades through gacha mechanics. They were in fact one of the first mainstream games to introduce such mechanics to a single-player game. But Dead Space 3... yeah, it's a tragedy that it ended up like it did. It does answer the Fermi Paradox in a novel way. Why are there no aliens? Because they got gobbled up by carnivorous moons. It's a pretty sharp turn to go from conventional big scary monster horror to cosmic horror where instead of being food for a gribbly you are food for the apex of all life, and it's difficult to pull off well. If you don't pull it off so well you get a situation like Runescape 3, where the cosmic horror stuff is quite the departure from the more low stakes adventuring stuff you do in that game. And it also suffers from microtransactions, but that's besides the point. Having an evil Isaac look over your shoulder and heckle you would be a nice departure from an evil Nicole doing the same, and would make for a much better horror element. Have him be some kind of creepy dungeon master to torment Isaac, or a manifestation of Isaac's survivor's guilt. But no, instead we got co-op and microtransactions, the middling performance of the developers' other games like Dante's Inferno and Army of Two, and so Visceral was loaded onto a truck and driven to the same ditch where EA buries all the bodies of its no longer profitable acquisitions like Bullfrog, Westwood, Pandemic, Origin Systems and all the others. Bad End.
