I should have guessed Half Life would be the main inspiration for a lot of the physics based puzzles. Still need to get to the lore of that series.

Dead Space is quite good, even with its series of issues. It's also one of those games where your inventory management determines which guns you will use: you can equip up to 4 guns and the ammo takes up inventory space alongside healing items and other things. The rest of the guns go into your equipment locker which can be accessed here and there. Fortunately the only ammo drops you get are for the guns you have equipped, so if you have just two you only get ammo for those two. And it's not like you need that many more of them: the basic plasma cutter (the one with the three dots you can change the alignment of with secondary fire) can deal with most enemies, even the bigger ones. It's kinda bad at dealing with swarms of the really small ones, so you'll need at least one secondary to deal with those.
The use of kinesis and freezing enemies gets some use here. I'm not sure who did the pausing enemis first but the whole physics things was used to great extent in Half-Life 2, and even gave you a very useful tool in the shape of the Gravity Gun to exploit the shiny new physics engine. Ravenholm is still one of the most beloved levels in FPS history.
Because this is only the first game in a trilogy there's still a lot more to go with elaborations on the Necromorphs, the Unitologists and the setting at large. This is also one of those games that was released during the multi-media franchise days, so there's also books, comics and spinoff games. Mandalore looked at one of those latter ones: Extraction. He also did the remake and the spiritual sequel, The Callisto Protocol. Stick to the Dead Space playlist on Mandalore's channel and you're golden.
While on the subject, PancreasNoWork and the lads over at Lore Crimes did a versus episode pitting the Necromorphs against the Tyranids in a Versus-like battle. It's just a podcast and not very visually stimulating, so it probably won't be very good reaction material. Might make for good material in some downtime, but you'll want to wait until you watched at least the Dead Space 3 review.
And yes, the chapters in this game do spell something out. In order:
New Arrivals
Intensive Care
Course Correction
Obliteration Imminent
Lethal Devotion
Environmental Hazard
Into the Void
Search and Rescue
Dead on Arrival
End of Days
Alternate Solutions
