Some of the Catapults still being in use centuries after their use is trying to engage in a bit of piracy in the Gulf of Mexico, only to be broadsided out of existence by the USS Constitution, one of the US Navy's original six ships that was ordered under George Washington and is still in use to this day. These kinda shenanigans are fairly common in settings like Battletech, and even more so in the likes of 40k where at one point the Tau had an existential crisis when they discovered that the Dreadnought they had destroyed is older than their entire species.
