I don't think I've ever heard about that for Thai culture. Perhaps it's a more common thing in rural areas.

The theory is that cutting your nails at night leaves dirt around the house. Lakshmi visits at night, and Hindus believe that the presence of dirt in the home will be seen as a sign of disrespect, bringing her ire upon them. Making Lakshmi angry results in the home losing money and falling into poverty. good reason to keep your home clean i guess hehehe Some other reastor said this not sure how true but "Thai cultures believe that cutting your nails at night represents cutting your parents' bones, while Chinese culture believe that cutting your nails at night will lead to spirits causing you nightmares."

Modern day having warnings or scientific exsplanations are silly to pass around. in the past you need a story whether they understrand it or not they know there is a problem and the story is there answer to deal with it.
