Well, yeah. Mad Cat in his looks is basically a Catapult with arms or Marauder with missile racks instead of autocannon.
There is one mech in existence that has even higher main character energy than a Mad Cat – Dire Wolf, also know as Daishi in Inner Sphere, an 100 ton assault OmniMech, also developed by clan Wolf.

Yeah, the Mad Cat is a piece of art and a great weapons platform, but sometimes you just need your work horses. And no, you can't just chuck hundreds of Elementals at the problem either: just like in real life, sometimes artillery support is just better than more infantrymen.
As for the video games, they're more like simulations than the action-oriented Armored Core. Mech Warrior uses a fair chunk of your keyboard, and when you start playing the older games you WILL need to keep the reference sheet nearby to learn to pilot your mech. Just your keypad can be taken up by the expanded targeting system modules, which let you press any button on the keypad to draw targeting circles on your targeted enemy so you know where to shoot to hit that target. This might sound like hax, except remember that both you and your target are moving quite fast, so even if you know where to shoot to snipe the enemy pilot you aren't very likely to hit even at rather short distances. And Mechwarrior isn't even the worst about the control schemes: go look up the controller peripheral that came with Steel Battalion.
