While it is implied in some of the older material that the Emperor has been many historical figures, we never got any true confirmation of the fact. Names often dropped by the fans are Alexander the Great, Caesar, Jesus, Charlemagne, William the Conqueror, Machiavelli, the Austrian painter and a few others. He also once alludes to Carlo Collodi, the man who wrote Pinocchio, where merely talking about the story would have sufficed to make his point. Note that he specifically has NOT been Genghis Khan, because early materials suggest that after his death he became the Daemon Prince Doombreed. The two of them fought at one point with the Emperor just said Doombreed's true name and cast him back into the Warp. We don't hear an actual name drop, but it'd be funny if the Emperor looked of of Khorne's mightiest servants dead in the eye, said "Temujin" and yeets Doombreed back to where he came from.
