2024-02-14 11:24:01 +0000 UTCYou can always flavor your spells as you like if the DM is ok with it. For example the cantrip: Fire Bolt, shoots a bolt of fire. Maybe you are roleplaying a character that leans heavily into thunder and lightning. So why not switch the Fire for Lightning damage and say you are shooting a small ball of lightning? If your DM says ok then it is so :). I also created some of my own spells with the dm together. In previews editions of DnD there were explicit rules for creating your own spells. They got removed in 5e, but you always can work together with your DM :). Same with magic items and such. Your Imagination is the limit and what your DM allows.
