2024-01-07 06:46:17 +0000 UTCSince last episode I have engaged with the source material (the Railgun manga; Index is based off of a light novel series, but Railgun is original to manga). I have yet to see any trace of the second cour's main plot in the manga, it seems to be going into season 2 stuff already. This suggests to me that cour 2 of season 1 is anime original. It will horrify you to know that all of the "filler" episodes in the first cour are gathered in one place in the manga; it is as if the mangaka didn't have any good ideas for plot after the AIM fetus was defeated, so they made filler stuff for a while. I presume they got feedback that chapters with actual plot were doing way better than chapters with just fanservice and archetype behaviour. Touma is also way more prominent in the first plot arc of the manga, he features in nearly every chapter in some capacity. This is a point where I prefer the anime approach (and would even more prefer that he be left out altogether).
