If you've looked at some of the maps of the planes, you would see that the Material Plane, the normal world that the characters mostly come from, is sandwiched between the Feywild and the Shadowfell. The Shadowfell is the plane of death, and it is opposed to the Feywild, the plane of unrestrained life. It makes sense that the Feywild would be opposed to Vax here. I'm not sure how explicitly it is mentioned in the show, but Syngorn, the elven city, used its emergency escape system to transport itself to the Feywild when the Chroma Conclave appeared. Which is pretty crazy, transporting a whole city to another plane of existence. The mechanisms such may be explored more in a future show.
