First Movie was 2011, this movie 2014, third movie 2017 and most recent movie 2024. The jump in technology from each movie is crazy, cant wait to see ur reaction to the next ones

Me being being in Caesar's place, humans would have lasted about 5 minutes in this movie

Unreal engine is a real time engine and is not used for movies. It is not capable of doing something like this. I believe this was done by Weta and they have their own inhouse renderer called Manuka which is a physics-based renderer. The lightning and textures behave in a more correct way then anything unreal could do.
It can render much better how light behaves through volumes like smoke and water and it can render caustics (How light gets reflected and scattered in transparent objects.
Before this Renderman from pixar was used a lot in the industry but other gfx companies might have their own renderer.
Unreal is pretty good at what it's made for and uses a lot of shortcuts to deliver a real time rendering but this wouldn't be good enough for these kinds of movies.
There's much more to it but the info is out there :)
