Not-Fun-Fact: dementia in the elderly can be mild and unnoticed until an accident or pnuemonia or flu results in a hospital visit or just being bedridden at home. Confusion is unleashed and suddenly the little droplets of memory loss are a tsunami. In this episode, Uncle Junior is doing a great job of pretending to be confused, until he’s not pretending. 😳 I’m 70 and terrified of losing the ability to live independently. Getting old is both a gift and a curse.

And such smart storytelling, to give Ralph a nearly redemptive moment just before he crosses the one line that Tony cannot forgive. Paulie’s line in the sand is his mother, Nucci. Tony’s line is animals and babies, the only creatures he perceives as being truly innocent. His bond with Pie made Tony feel lovable and offered him glimpses of his own goodness. Pie’s horrific death was, to Tony, an attack on the part of himself that hasn’t been corrupted. In the end scene of Tony looking at photos on the dressing room wall at the strip club, he sees a snapshot of the young woman Ralph beat to death in an earlier season.
