Jackson's death in the book was SO much worse. He got shrapnel lodged in his brain and was fine at first. He was even standing and walking. Then his head started to hurt and hurt to the point he was begging to be shot while waiting for a medic to arrive. The men kept telling him he would be fine and to hold one till the medics arrived, but by the time they did, it was too late and he died on the stretcher while being evacuated to the aid station.

The "refreshed" guy asking where every one was is understandable. The ones he's asking about could have been killed yes, but they could have gotten injured or promoted and transferred, who knows unless you ask. He just wanted to be accepted again seeing as how he was there through everything but Bastogne. The Lt isn't just looking for honor and glory. He's looking for hands on experience knowing that his time is limited to do so seeing as how the war is coming to an end. Jones was able to learn more than enough in his short time with Easy. He got experience, he saw Winters act like a leader should and he saw the bond of his subordinates and how important it was.
