Love this series. By now, I’m sure you’ve heard of the other HBO mini-series on WWII, “The Pacific” about the marine corps in the Pacific Theatre of war. It was put together based on the writings of at least 2 people. The two I know for sure were Eugene Sledge who wrote his memoir entitled “With the Old Breed: At Pelielu and Okinawa”. The other memoir used for the series was “Helmut for My Pillow: From Parris Island to the Pacific” by Robert Lechie.
Give that one a view also. You won’t be disappointed

Watched it as a kid and thought it was entertaining. Watched a few years ago and thought it was amazing.

Nah, I'm not cut out for war. The brutality of combat, the uncertainty of seeing another day, the morality struggle with taking another humans life just because they wear a different uniform... those things I can handle, but I am NOT sleeping in SNOW!

My favorite miniseries of all time is Lonesome Dove. It is fictional, but it is based on the novel of the same name. I cannot recommend it enough.

Brutal episode. It is hot outside but as usual, just watching this episode makes me feel like I am freezing to death.

Annd we're done! Goddamn that was a pressure cooker of an Episode! And having just re-read some the info I have on my Grandfather , and learning a bit more , it just blew me away. If my small bit of research , telegrams ,and a few other new things ,is/are correct , I believe he was captured during the time that this episode took place.(He was declared MIA on Dec 23rd , 1945) Man , lol this is TRIPPY! As for more in the based on actual events Military Films, IMO , I stick to what I have requested. Black Hawk Down - 2001 - Director - Ridley Scott -The story of 160 elite US soldiers who dropped into Mogadishu in October 1993 to capture two top lieutenants of a renegade warlord. Hamburger Hill - 1987 - Director - John Irvin - May 1969 assault during the Vietnam War by the U.S. Army's 3rd Battalion, 187th Infantry, 101st Airborne Division. There are others , to be sure , but these are standouts that compare to BoB. Based on actual events and soldiers , and the fact that ANY ONE can die at any time. Ok, so if memory serves correctly , Dexter will be tomorrow , Sopranos tomorrow or Thursday , and the weekend Fun/Random/Weirdness Movies. And thanks again Sir , for an amazing reaction! Peace

Ok, been looking forward to this one. I just found the package holding what little I have on my Grandfather's service etc.I was able to find out more exact dates , names ,places , and information , and it is fascinating. I am going to have to have the documents scanned though , as they are in rough shape around the edges. Were it not for your reaction Mr. LBoyd Sir , I may not have looked again , and they would be gone. So thanks to you , and all who recommended this show. No Checklists for this show. Sorry if it sounds weird , but while I will have my regular viewing things I do , it seems sorta "wrong" to make it sound fun ? Does that sound weird? Anyway , let's get this goin. Peace

First and foremost , Thank You for your service Sir. My Grandfather (Mom's Dad) was in WW2. PFC Kenneth M Wolssiffer - 327th Glider Infantry - MIA - Belgium, Dec.23, 1945 - Confirmed POW via German radio broadcast - Feb 23 ,1945 - Returned home - June/July ,1945. I am still learning what I can about him. Watching this show here has fanned the flames of interest for me. I am glad your encourage and share your son's interests. It sound like an amazing piece of History to have. Peace

They make jokes because that is how they deal with the awfulness that is war. Joe Toye still had value even with trench foot because he's able to use a weapon. He doesn't have to go anywhere they are holding position. All he has to do is sit, wait, and shoot. I was in the 101st Airborne from 2006 to 2010. When I found out I had a 14yr old son that loved history and military history as much as me. For Christmas I found a .50cal bullet that had be recovered from this battle and authenticated. I gave that to him it came with a plaque that told about the story of the battle of the bulge.
