That movie, especially the graphic Omaha Beach scene, reminded a new generation of the bravery and sacrifice that those soldiers faced to secure our freedom. Tom Hanks wanted to pay tribute to the airborne divisions that paved the way for the ground invasion so he produced this mini series, Band of Brothers. After BOB he produced The Pacific, about the heroics in the Pacific Theater.

2025-02-27 01:57:49 +0000 UTCMy Great Grandfather immigrated to America from Denmark when he was 7. When he was 14 he lied about his age on his enlistment paper and shipped out to WW1. There's a good chance that happened a lot in WW2. Some of those fresh recruits were high school aged. Birth Certificates, if available, were easily forged.

I really liked the fact that this episode dealt with FNG's.(Fuckin new guys) It's more common in the Vietnam films I have seen than WW2. Another powerful episode. As for more War films , I say 110% yes. Gotta stick with my previous recommendations of Black Hawk Down - 2001 - Director - Ridley Scott - Somalia , 1993. And one of the least reacted to Vietnam films , (However , much more accurate than most others. ) Hamburger Hill - 1987. Based on a real battle , and it stays with 1 platoon for the duration of the film. Brutal , and moving. As always Sir , thanks for the amazing reaction! Be back tomorrow!
