Chernobyl E2-3 FULL REACTION

 Chernobyl E2-3 FULL REACTION

Comments

1 hour mark. I saw that severe cut. You must have said something crazy to have to hide it from even patreon. Game recognize game.

Nathan Hale

To reiterate... Radiation sickness and radiation burns are separate, yet obvious co-morbidities. The firefighter that grabbed the graphite in episode one. Or the guy that forced the door open to the reactor chamber. Massive radiation burns, which be acute, or destructive enough to kill directly. Barring that, you still obviously have radiation sickness to look forward to... That's how bananas, over the top this incident is. Nothing really ever to compare it to. Though if you wikipedia Demon Core... That's pretty gross too. Think of one as the sunburn, and one as the heat stroke. Same mechanism, and even makes them all red like they're sunburned... Damn you, nasty radiation!!!

Mike MIchelsen

Annnd we're done. Son of a BITCH! That was intense. I am so thankful you chose this Sir. Otherwise , I may never have gotten to it. And for those that may not wear headphones/buds often ya need to with this! Other thank praise for the show , and the Reaction , I am more or less at a loss for words. I can't wait to see the last 2 Episodes next week! Thanks again Sir! Peace

Madmanmarz1981

Ok, Just now 1/2 way in and I have to say Bravo to the Sound Department!!!! The last few minutes were Amazing!!!! Talk about tension! Ok, that said , Back to it! : ]

Madmanmarz1981

No, you’re right, the actor is Matthew Needham and his filmography includes Chernobyl and House of the Dragon. You have a good eye for faces.

Susan B

Does she glow in the dark now? 😊

Susan B

Ok, Chernobyl Time! I'm really looking forward to this. Based on the comments so far , it should be good: ] Checklist Time - Fatty's rolled - Check - Beer freezer cold - Check - Smokes and Zippo - Check. Ok then. ; ] поехали в Чернобыль ! Peace

Madmanmarz1981

A close friend of mine did it in 2019 😂 (she’s not nuts, just very into the history)

Flora Smith

doesn't seem too far off as far as what they looked like before death. below is a link to an image from a documentary on acute radiation poisoning... but it's pretty graphic. The show does still exaggerate the extent of how gruesome it is though. https://www.google.com/url?sa=i&url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.reddit.com%2Fr%2Fchernobyl%2Fcomments%2Fbyboe1%2Fgraphic_this_photo_is_from_a_documentary_about%2F&psig=AOvVaw3xpDGWpe-92xZllqJ6kSxp&ust=1738288213657000&source=images&cd=vfe&opi=89978449&ved=0CBQQjRxqFwoTCKiK97GqnIsDFQAAAAAdAAAAABAJ

Mister_Bleak

i imagine the reason they overexaggerated the effects initially was that it would be more catching for viewers...more likely to hook people in. typically the more wonderous and devastating something appears, the more enamored most people tend to be with it. its crazy but tends to be the case.

Mister_Bleak

Please let me know if I'm wrong. I'm usually pretty good at spotting actors so hopefully I'm right on this one lol!

Denise Mattsen

i agree that having it be in Russian and simply having English subtitles would have felt more authentic, but i understand that this is solely for our benefit and it is to be believed that all characters involved were Russians speaking Russian.

Mister_Bleak

There’s a lot of real heroism in this story.

Susan B

Prior to the Ukraine war, the Chernobyl Exclusion Zone was an “adventure tourism” destination. Seriously. Imagine paying someone to drive you in there and equip you with a Geiger counter. Creepy.

Susan B

Where theres a good male acting role, there’s a Skarsgard on the phone with his agent. Which brings up an idea for Mr Boyd’s stack of reaction requests: The Terror

Susan B

Whoa! I didn’t recognize him at all! Thanks for pointing that out. Another actor who’ll put in an appearance in the series is Barry Keoghan who starred in Saltburn and appeared in The Banshees of Inisherin. Keoghan has such a recognizable face you can’t miss him. I’m going to go google Larys actor now!

Susan B

I don’t doubt there are as many brilliant actors in Russia as in the UK and USA. (Look at the number of amazing actors in a small country like Norway, for example, as seen in the mob-themed comedy Lilyhammer, and the Viking satire “Norsemen.” Russia is a huge country, no shortage of talent. But the politics of this series is still radioactive over there, so it had to be a western production.

Susan B

I live in Finland so I'd always heard about Chernobyl and how even people here were worried about the effects, but you never think about how much of the story you're missing. As much as this is about incompetence and cover-ups, I'm glad they decided to focus on the people who gave their lives and health to save others. In a way they also show the Soviet Union at its best. Of course another tragedy is that many of the people who got sick because they helped weren't taken care of.

Teth

Loved their encoding, 5 yo Boris and 14 yo Simka (5th and 14th elements on the table, aka Boron and Silicium). We instead used to encode stuff in chemical symbols using them as syllables... just for fun. Nice 75 89 81 8 7.

Michal Kubán

You understand this isn't a documentary. Dramatic license. And heck, in this case, the horrible things do happen they just sped them up a bit. Just like the language, you need to drop this. This isn't a 52 week series. It is 5 episodes. Things have to be sped up.

TigerMyth

I think calling it a Mini-Series still works. Back in the day when TV networks released a Mini-Series it would have a HUGE budget with real stars in it. Not all of them, but I can remember being real excited for any network releasing a Mini-Series. Shogun probably being my favorite. Richard Chamberlain was the king of Mini-Series. He was in a pile of them. Lines have blurred since networks and streaming services have started pushing 10 episode or less seasons.

TigerMyth

Tbh. I'd prefer it in Russian / Ukrainian / Belarusian too, but I doubt those actors could pull it off. But if you ever play Stalker 2, definitely switch to Ukrainian... great voice acting and the immersion goes to 10.

Michal Kubán

Yep. The reason we're so conscious of the effects of radiation now is because Chernobyl happened. People really didn't know which led both under- and overestimating the effects and the danger of exposure. Her husband was dying the most painful death imaginable. I think she would rather have died than let him go through it alone. And of course the soviet officials not listening is just how things work in that kind of system. Deny and deflect as far as humanly possible.

Teth

To be fair pretty high, those Skarsgårds are everywhere. And he keeps making more of them 😩

Teth

This! They banned the Death of Stalin ffs, and they're still denying the magnitude of what happened. And we can't expect actors to pick up foreign languages for every role they take.

Teth

I wouldn't really call them idiots, especially the wife of the firefighter. She thinks its just heat burns and is more ignorant about radiation and it's effects, like most of the soviet population (civilian at least) during this time, than an idiot.

EndlessRiver

Playing Stalker 2: Heart of Chornobyl right now while I'm watching this in the background. This show hits different while I'm rummaging the ruins of Pripyat looking for loot.

Jake Martin

Mr. B, in life there is never a penis warning. 😎

Susan B

Correct. Also, I don’t think there are enough talented Russian-American/Russian-British actors to do this show justice. If they had the British/American actors learn Russian, that would be really distracting for me since I am half-Russian and would notice how poorly it’s spoken.

redhawk

The helicopter hit the crane, which is why it fell. I think most people, including me, misinterpreted that scene.

redhawk

For political reasons, this series could not have been made in Russia or even with Russian-speaking actors who live and work in Russia. Putin is a former KGB agent, and the facts of Chernobyl remain an embarrassment to an era in the former Soviet Union that he likely considers the good ol’ days. I don’t think HBO can just go produce work with the cooperation of Russian creatives, the way Hulu did with Japan to make Shogun.

Susan B

@21:00 when you're talking about the tracks are you sure it's not the tile floor pattern? The cut scene right before when the camera is moving in a parallel direction with the actress walking down the hallway it looks like the floor tile has a train-track style pattern almost. Idk maybe I missed seeing what you're talking about.

Slimsycentaur37

Just wanted to put that out there right away in case I forget, but if you don't catch it, the guy at the beginning is Larys from House of the Dragon.

Denise Mattsen

Coincidentally, US agencies including the CDC have now been ordered to have no communication with the public (or with overseas health agencies) that hasn’t been screened through the White House. What could possibly go wrong?

Susan B

What are the chances Stellan Skarsgard is in Chernobyl, Dune 2, and Dragon Tattoo back to back to back? lol

Slimsycentaur37

That pile of clothes at the bottom of the hospital is still there to this day, there's pictures of it and it is still radioactive.
