INTERVIEW WITH THE VAMPIRE FULL REACTION

INTERVIEW WITH THE VAMPIRE FULL REACTION

Comments

The recent AMC series Interview With the Vampire, based on this same book, is really good. I'd vote for that in a poll

Kevin DiSalvo

True Blood was a pretty good vampire series. Watch an episode and see what you think!

Hope E Cochrane

Yes, they don't feel sexual urges at all, but I think that's something people could have a hard time letting go of if given a choice. 😂 Although it's a nice sentiment that gender, race etc doesn't matter when they're looking for a companion. In the books Louis only stops being racist after he becomes a vampire.

Teth

I prefer it to the source material.

Susan B

Right! But they don't really miss it though do they? They have new things to enjoy... like killing and eating people.

Alejandro Guerra

Lord no! 🤣 He might as well watch Twilight.

Teth

How can you say the series is better when it's so divorced from the original material? It's just a different thing entirely.

Teth

This is like the only role where Brad Pitt doesn't annoy me lol. It's one of the few roles where he's doing something outside of his usual box.

Teth

By the way, Anne Rice's vampires can't have sex because their bodies don't work anymore, so that might factor into your decision making 😂

Teth

Oh! What a nice surprise, I wasn't expecting this on your list. This is one of the most beautiful films ever made IMO. Aside from the script which was written by the book's author, the soundtrack and possibly the best performances of their careers from Pitt, Cruise and Kirsten Dunst, Neil Jordan is just an incredible director. Every shot is like a painting and it captures the gothic atmosphere like nothing I've ever seen. The statue blinking, Lestat crawling on the ceiling as he burns, the horse carriage appearing out of the mist... They made an animatronic doll for Lestat's "first" death where he's bleeding out, and it still looks incredible 20 years later. Needless to say this is one of my favourite movies of all time. A friend and I held presentation of it in school and showed the scene where Luis is turned. The teacher wasn't too happy with the amount of blood in it 😅

Teth

How much would it cost me via paypal for you to do a specific movie? It IS horror, but it's not your typical, there is some scenes with SERIOUS gore, but they are spread apart and far between. They are like... some of the most horrific: Saw-level, but since the film is actually good and it's not even really the main focus (or even what's really scary* about it TBH)the scenes are extra impactful. There is nudity, full frontal, multiple times (and not in a context like Schindler's list except in one scene, if it were taken out of context it'd probably be considered WEIRD "soft" porn.. but it's ridiculously important to the plot and... I don't want to spoil it in case you do watch it). There are scenes where characters are either in extreme pain/fear/agony or causing it. There's (if you're in the know) references to MANY religions/spiritualities, in particular "Pagan European religions", N.A.C. traditions and religions (It's very clear that Ari Aster has gone to a few Native American "ceremonies" and knows about the sun dance and quite a few other things), obviously because he's Jewish there's a LOT of white & blue and a couple of... concepts from Judaism are in there, Christianity also appears to have symbolism in this made up CULT religion-mishmash. Additionally there are extremely accurate depictions of what taking several psychedelic substances can do: there's a scene with psilocybin mushrooms are consumed at the very beginning of the film, and from there there's "additional things" that resemble very very very closely the appearance of taking ayahuasca in a moderate dose, San Pedro/Peyote (primary effects are from mescaline) in a larger dose, and what appears to have effects either like scopolamine (datura, brugmansia, belladonna-related plants) or/and tetrodotoxin (pufferfish). There was also something that apparently works sorta like yohimbine or some other sexual stimulant but the effects don't really "show" except for... you'll see IF you see. Ummm very disturbing use of white and brightness, and just overall gorgeous scenery in a horror movie it's unsettling also who the "bad guy/s/thing/s/evil" are and how they generally behave. I'm fairly certain you already watched his first film: Heredetary.. that was a more "classic" type of horror movie. This movie has no elements of the supernatural, at all. No demon possession. No spirits. There's absolutely a link between this movie, Hereditary, and Beau is Afraid, I wanna see if you catch it from the first two movies (Hereditary and: Midsommar). The first two films can be analyzed independently and certainly they are "saying" things. Beau is Afraid is only understandable through the link between it and the first two movies, but if you try to analyze it on it's own as a stand-alone film and you think you're going to find a meaning or message, you're going to hurt your brain. Movie title: "Midsommar" Genre: Folk Horror, Psychological Horror, Suspense, High-end Horror Run time: ~2.33 hours Notes: polarized audiences, ending can be interpreted two ways.

Alejandro Guerra

*Kirsten Dunst, I get them confused

Alejandro Guerra

Oh wow. I completely missed that. Well, I guess now we can write all the fanfic we want without her coming down on us.... Sad she's gone though, she was on of my favorite writters. Stephen King probably next....

Alejandro Guerra

An amazing movie and great reaction. The TV series is alright but has nothing on this film. Personally I was always impressed with Kirstin Dunsts performance given her young age.

Mikel Swart

Well she’s dead, so…

Susan B

Not anytime soon. I'll put it in the list now

Lenear Boyd

One of my all time favorite films. I have watched it probably 10 times by now. I'm glad you enjoyed it at well.

Keith Allen

Enjoyed the rewatch, and your reaction. Still can’t believe they cast these guys just for their box office power, when they were so desperately wrong for the roles. Kirsten Dunst as the child vampire was the sole standout. She’s a terrific actress.

Susan B

But these two actors have the sexual chemistry of a hamster and a shoe.

Susan B

Seconding 12 Monkeys. Maybe the only time-travel film where I couldn’t poke holes in the logic no matter how I struggled.

Susan B

It’s a gorgeous series.

Susan B

True Blood on HBO is a vampire series with a witty premise: scientists in Japan have perfected artificial blood for medical use, but it gets branded as True Blood and marketed to vampires who don’t want to murder anybody. It’s sold like beer. (This is not a spoiler, it’s the means by which the series delivers us a de-stigmatized population of mostly non-murdery vampires.)

Susan B

The AMC series is beautifully done, and mercifully the child they turn into a vampire is at least a teenager. Wonderful cast, unlike this cruel casting joke.

Susan B

Still jaw-dropped by the casting of Tom Cruise as an ancient vampire. I can’t watch him emote.

Susan B

Dear lord no. It was horrible and they destroyed a perfectly good book with one of the worst adaptations ever. Well, unfortunately that wasn't an exaggeration back then but it its now because Hollywood has been on a real tear butchering adaptation. Wheel of Time has the same character names but that is the only thing similar to the books. Same for Queen. Instead of changing the names to protect the innocent they changed the plots.

TigerMyth

Any shot Blues Brothers 2000 is comin', anytime and the reasonably near future?

Alejandro Guerra

*No you can't have "natural kids" anymore, only turn others and there's a special bond. *He's literally Him in the books, he starts out already super powerful, Louis just got made, his only chance really is also trapping him in sunlight, which will take a while at this point, but should still work. Louis doesn't even have telepathy, he can't scratch Lestat, also maker and made can't use telepathy on eachother. *Advanced telepathy and mind control, and definitely the va gets a rush from drinking blood that's described in the book... as you'd expect. *I believe in the book they seal the wound after killing and then it's just a dead body pre-modern medicine. *Witherspoon's first or second performance ever, yes she was that young, yes... it really happened. Yes, she doesn't especially like discussing it. *technically the potential for God to exist in this universe is higher than vampires. Consider every possibility about the universe where an entity or group of entities create reality, there's nothing that says it's not even possible that he big band is a 1 to 1 with the "let there be light" proclamation in the genesis chapter. Consider living in a simulated universe, anyone who controls the simulation technically is a god to everything inside.. and that's mathematically highly probable. *Armand is a complex character, complex enough to get his own book. He's pretty old, and the guy who made him was even older, but I don't think he knows about Akasha or the source of vampires. Oh! In Memnoch , the devil there's some affirmation I believe of God and I think Jesus... I don't remember the book that well TBH but I do remember it was probably one of the best i the series, it's the 4rth or 5th book. Either way, Armand, Lois, Lestat all end up patching things up in the last books and are basically friends, Lestat is extremely OP by this point and can do things like pyrokinesis I believe.. but I think it's armand who ultimately turns the interviewer into a vamp. *In Queen of the Damned-the movie, it's a mashup of The Vampire lestat book AND the actual Queen of the Damned-book. Lestat actually burried himself for a while and popped out and joined a rock band. In this Interview with the vampire-movie theres no continuity to the Queen of the Damned movie because that last scene never happened.

Alejandro Guerra

I'm gonna go before I even watch this: 1) this is possibly one of the more faithful adaptations to the film. 2) It is clear in the book this is entirely from Louis' perspective, he doesn't know everything and is extremely spiteful at Lestat for making him a vamp. The NEXT BOOK is called "The Vampire Lestat" and it's from his perspective a few hundred years earlier than this but it runs into this story eventually, Louis and I forget the girl's name are kinda a-holes TBH. Basically though: they all make more vampires because at some point they need companions. 3)This lady wrote a series called "Beauty's punishment" or something it's a full on crazy BDSM/fantasy erotica book series... needless to say, the actual "Interview with the Vampire" was a little more... kinky. No it didn't go anywhere near the other series but there's something about this lady she likes to add sexual subtext and is into some stuff apparently. Not my cup of tea but hey, The Vampire Chronicles, The Lasher, and The ,Mayfair Witches Chronicles were amazing. But a little kinky... just a tad. 4)The books are a million times better, and in every one except this one, The Vampire Armand, and I think one more are all Lestat's books. He's actually the main character, he's not at all what like he's portrayed either in the first book or in the movies/shows he's a pretty good guy actually, and a thing he does is use telepathy to target serial killers after he also gets tired of animals. The olderr the vampire that makes the new vampire, and the less vamps that have been made by them in a while, the stronger the resulting vampire: the vamp that made Lestat was I think like 1000 years old and seriously tired of life, he had never made a single vamp and made Lestat against his will (hence the "I'm going to give you a choice I never had" line) after going through a billion individuals that looked very similar to him, decided on him to be his survivor. He turned Lestat, and set himself on fire in a pire (boom). So Lestat can fly, as well as several things that neither Louis or the Not-Kid cannot do. He also can survive things that would kill most vamps. After he drinks from the ACTUAL QUEEN OF THE VAMPIRES (The movie sucks and is not very like the book) He can't really even be killed by sunlight or practically anything since she had been catatonic for a few thousand years and also hadn't made a vamp since she went catatonic I guess, but Lestat's violin wakes her up and she gives him a lil power up. Plus in that book you find out how she became a vampire and was the first: she was basically possessed by a blood demon/spirit/entity and merged with it. SO: Was doing Dexter before Dexter was a thing, was also doing sorta the way that Titans from AOT were creatd before the show or manga. I bet anything the writters of both of those also probably read a lot of Anne Rice

Alejandro Guerra

Yeah, both were great.

Scott Asher

Both versions of "Let the right one in" are great, there's so much goof vamp film just like there's good music, you just gotta look

Alejandro Guerra

pls no! That was a butchery.

Alejandro Guerra

Oh boy. I can already guess. The books... way way less subtle with the ummm... that, and those other things you're probably gonna wonder. Anna Rice is an.... interesting person- with diabetes, I know because I had the missfortune of meeting her in person at a book signing... turns out she almost died from eating ice cream once... so never ask her her fav flavor.

Alejandro Guerra

We have a lot of Marvel nerds or SciFi nerds in here... I'm a Vampire nerd! This is a great starting point. The show on AMC is good, I'd watch that. True Blood on HBO Max is fun. A lot of people are saying Queen of the Damned, that was good too. 30 Days of Night was good, but a different spin. If you want to go old school awesome the 80's movie The Lost Boys rocks. Fright Night and the remake are both good. But you should 100% watch Blade. It also ties into the X-Men Universe that you'll eventually get to.

Scott Asher

"Queen of the Damned" next!!!

Riley

Books were so much better than the movie. I say movie because Queen of the Damned was suck an abomination I try not to speak of it. I pretend it doesn't exist. I hated Cruise for Lestat when announced but he has grown on me. I've always been sad they didn't make a big budget version of The Vampire Lestat but that is the problem. Big budget or CGI mess.

TigerMyth

Resubbed just to watch this movie. Great Vampire flick.

Mega Reacts

this is still my favority vampire movie. There are many vampire movies that are not good, but there are very few that are good, and to me this is the best. Ageless aswell.

Joao

Well… everyone except for Brad Pitt obviously 😂

Tron

kinda chick flickish but still a good film.

D Montano

Great movie everyone killed their roles in this one 😀

Kieran

If you want a good action vampire movie then I can only recommend Blade.

connor anderson

please consider watching "Queen of the Damned", if you enjoyed or found this interesting!

Jenna96

omg I never imagined you would watch this, but I'm very intrigued and excited that you have!

Jenna96

There was a man named Dracula, the Tsar of Wallachia. A famously brutal man, but I don't think he had any special powers😅

gak9319

great reaction underrated movie.

Samuel Avetisyan

i loved the ending Do i want to be a vampire after watching all of this * YES *

Samuel Avetisyan

I love that almost new video game Vampyr. U get extra achievements if u really dont eat any ppl. But every play thru i try eat as many ppl there is. Fuk those achievements, eating ppl on that game is wonderful!

VitaminPete616

House fires? Here in Norway people where still using real candles on Christmas trees in the 50s, so yeah house fires😅

gak9319

You never played as a Vampire in Skyrim? You get a seduction power, whoever you use it on lets you feed on them. I assume Lestat is doing something similar🤔 My favourite depiction of Vampires in games is Vampire The Masquerade Bloodlines, bit old but still holds up🙂

gak9319

don't want to be buried in a pet sematary I don't want to live my life again I don't want to be buried in a pet sematary I don't want to live my life again

VitaminPete616

I'm so glad you watched this film! It's one of my favorite vampire films. There are more films i believe, but not by the same people. I don't find them as good as this one. Either way, glad you enjoyed it :)

Mister_Bleak

Finally some OG movie from this channel. Damn havent seen this movie....prob when it came out

VitaminPete616

The series so so much better! I hope that one gets visited eventually.

Rana

Oops. I thought this was the excellent recent TV series (starring the Grey Worm actor from Game of Thrones, and not the most mist-cast movie ever made.

Susan B

In Jr High, my best friend's little sister was best friends with Kirsten Dunst. It was crazy that all of the sudden annoying little Kirsten was in the biggest movie in the world.

Scott Asher

Please watch 12 Monkeys

tony hotaling
